For someone of his age, I don't think it's excessively lenient. 

Are you one of those guys, who believe that all a child needs to grow up well, is a good thrashing from time to time? Or are you just a good Christian (or Jew), who believes it is OK to hit your slaves with a rod, as long as they do not die from such treatment (Exodus 21:2)? Are you a Muslim, believing that cutting off the hands of a thief is the right way to go?

More advanced societies have long ago realised, that torturing criminals does not reduce the numbers of criminals nor lower the numbers of crimes over all.

And I suppose that you are type of guy that thinks such people deserve a 2nd, 3rd chance, when in fact the punishment didn't change anything other than hang a sign like on a broken elevator "Sorry, out of service"  . . . for a couple of years, and OMG how could we put the creep away for an inhumanely long period of time, with the all-too-often end result of a repeat offence and yet another child (or more) hacked apart and scared for life.  But then again, you probably don't have children of your own, do you ?

I was surprised at the sentence too,but I guess Kathy has a point.He is pretty old and apparently not in good health.

He has been publicly shamed,proven to have lied,his life as a public figure is over,the victims have been damaged and that can't be undone.Revenge serves no purpose.What is more important is to send the message that no one,however famous,has rights over another person's body and to make people aware that this kind of abuse is more common than they think.

And maybe this will make people start to think more about WHY this kind of abuse happens in the first place.......
