ScotDave banned ?

I received a message from Scotdave/Melinda, probably like all members of her network. She claimed that she has been prohibited from posting activities on Glocals, basically for arriving late at her events, without having been given a chance to amend.

I don't like one-sided complaints and usually don’t react to them. But still, as this one concerns the most prolific activities organizer on Glocals ever, I would be interested to have Glocals management version of things.

Thanks

Hello

I was surprised by his message to. He/she was the most regular activities organizer since the very begining of Glocals. Even if I we are not friend, I was impressed by his perseverance as organizing event reveals masochisme.

I also would like to know glocals point of view, but I suspect a financal inconvenience.

He/she s now on internations.org where I m also member, I wish him good luck but I don t think that the 2networks play the same league.

Re: ScotDave banned ?
Post 2

I attended several of ScotDave's events when I first joined and, aside from the shock the first time I met him, I was satisfied with the event.

The last 2-3 events that I joined, however, were another story. I spoke with him a few times about his tardiness to the New Years Eve event and he played it off like it was nothing. He had a group of 20 people (mostly new) waiting over an hour. I gathered them as they arrived and we had a good time, but they all asked "are you the organizer?" and I just said, no, he must be running late. He didn't show up until over an hour after his event started, which I think is extremely rude, especially when he didn't bother to apologize. When I called him on it, he told me how rude I was being and got very nasty in his message which ended with "don't join my events any more."

So be it.

While I won't speak for management directly, the other side of the story that I have heard doesn't paint so dire a picture as painted by Bustan's recount of SD's message. It seems he's been *asked* not to post events *for a while*, because they've gotten several/many/lots (?) of complaints from people.

I'd like to hear from both parties directly, or preferrably, I'd prefer that this be discussed completely offline and not broadcast to friends or whatever.

I was surprised to receive that msg too, he's alwasy been very nice in his events and in case of late arrival always informed someone else. I didn't see it as such a big issue. Anyway, I'll keep in touch with him outside glocals.

And....................so also people who RSVP yes to events and then do not show up should be banned? :)

Hi Bustan,

ScotDave was asked to put his events on pause, until we're more certain he can commit to holding them in a quality way. We asked him several times.

Event organizers are the life-blood of glocals.com, and we only ask event organizers to stop if we're convinced there's a very valid reason for it.

I don't want to get more detailed, to respect privacy.

ScotDave is a good guy with a big heart, and I hope his new events on  different platform will be a huge success.

Nir makes a good point.

Glocals only exists through the voluntary efforts of its members. Remember, we pay – through our advertising-appealing eyes – their salaries. They work for us, not the other way round. Sometimes I think they forget this.

Therefore, Glocals should show a little more gratitude and respect to ScotDave. This, after all, isn’t a dictatorship. Let the people speak and be heard. If word gets round that an activity organiser is sub-par, his/her events will soon wither on the vine…

Plus, we’re not children. We don’t need our hands held. Everyone knows free events are merely a pre-arranged platform for each individual to then contribute something worthwhile - with or without a late arrivingoverseer.

SCOTDAVE IS INNOCENT! Join the fight against fascism.

@david hyperbole does not help the argument. It's not fascism. It's not a democracy, it's apparently not the first time SD has been asked to not be late.

It seems people have complained about him/his activities.... Should the admins simply ignore their concerns simply because SD organizes so many things?

I think Nir has struck a good balance and we should not blow this out of proportion.

Go away. We all know the Glocals team well enough to know that they wouldn't ban an active member without good reason.

We attended one event, trip to Gruyeres, I drove, others took the train, SD was late and the whole group travelled alone from GVA. After this we did not attend further events by him. Yes kudos for his commitment to organizing so much, but punctuality is something, especially here in GVA that is a must. We give up our precious free time for these events and expect nothing more than someone there when we arive. And it goes without saying SD was unemployed at the time, and benefitted from these gatherings. Be it free food in restaurants, free drink, etc. due to group bookings. I notice Nir said it was only a pause to operations, therefore I get a feeling of over dramatisation and attempted poaching of members towards internations is in operation in the private message we all recieved.

I wish him well, and hope the internations folks are more relaxed bunch than us blackberry yielding impatient road runners...

As I understand it he's only been asked to stop organising stuff till he gets his timing right... not been banned from Glocals....

No need to "throw teddy bears out of cots" here... its a valid "ask" in my opinion...

Organise something and turn up on time to greet the attendees... otherwise people stand around like muppets wondering whats happening...

Being late once or twice due to circumstance is ok... but continually... Come on people...paahleeze. its simply good manners.

Ah - wow.

All I can add is that although I am not friends with Scot Dave, I made one of my best friends through 1 of his events -- to which he was late to and didn't properly introduce me/us to the group... That was in 2008. Have I attended any of his events since?.. No. But did I gain a really good friend. Yes.

In addition I gained 3 more awesome friends through his Gruyeres trip. Well 4 ladies met on his trip in 2009 and have stayed in touch ever since despite now living in different corners of the globe. 1 of them was a friend of mine, so I gained 3 more.

Of course it sucks if you are waiting for a host to show up and then doesn't appear to care about being late etc... But in all fairness the amount of effort he has given to creating events on glocals at least during the last 5 years that I have been a member is pretty evident.

So, ScottDave - thanks to your events you have given me 4 fab friends Smile

Maybe Nir could enlighten us as to whether or not he sang constantly to Nir whilst being told to stop organising stuff.

You should watch the full audition ; http://nouvellestar.d8.tv/

I met Scotdave 4 years ago, he was cool guy, very welcoming and fun... then I saw his transformation into Melinda, and ouch... in french we say : "il a pris la grosse tête", so I hope his ego has been bite by the judges of nouvelle star and he will realise that low profil is the key to success, specially when you re not talented...

Good luck Mlle, Mr.

I dont know why Mr Milida was kicked out but that is the Glocals management to keep to themselves as it wouldnt be professional or serious site.

But in the end my guess is not because he was wining or howling or sanging to Glocals but I think its because he organized many events and was constantly late, which is bad for all the new members.

Oh i also been with him for Karaoke, and he is not a good singer at all. And he sings the same everytime, badly. Which is why X Factor and Nouvelle star will never choose him, why doesnt he take this one as a 'final hint'?

To the best of my knowledge...

ScotDave was NOT BANNED.

He was asked my management to scale back on organizing events/activities for a while because of numerous issues/complaints/etc.

The reason why it's being discussed "publicly" is because ScotDave apparently sent a message to his entire glocals network of friends and one of them, Bustan the OP, asked for the other side of the story.

I have to say I'm ill at ease with the turn this thread took. Debating ScotDave/Melinda activities is perfectly OK, but the video stuff sounds like a unfair publicly-laughing-about-somebody exercise to me. Some people make more easy targets for one reason or another, that's not a valid reason to shoot at them
