Security Concerns at GVA airport this weekend?

Has anyone heard *anything* about heightened security concerns at the Geneva airport this weekend? Someone told me she had received some information to that end, but I have found nothing on Google News, easyjet or on the gva.ch site.

Has anyone out there heard anything specific?

Thanks.

I haven't heard anything, but Ban Ki-Moon has been in Geneva today ( http://www.tdg.ch/geneve/actu-genevoise/ban-kimoon-s-exprime-conseil-droits-lhomme/story/25772866 ).  I guess he may attract extra security.

Nothing but the normal chaos down in GVA last night. But just a hunch, but isn't John Kerry around this part of the world recently, Rome last few days, perhaps he is popping in. Its only generally the US or Israeli crew that cause the 'Look at me, fuss' in GVA. Aside from my escorts of course.....

I was out on the General Aviation side all day yesterday and didn't notice anything special. Nothing of much consequence this morning either. I'll ask around though.

I saw something on TV yesterday about an police officer at (I think) Geneva airport who believes he's stumbled onto a nefarious plot by a team of ex-U.S. Army Special Forces to rescue a drug lord and dictator who is being extradited to the United States, by taking over the air traffic control systems and trying to seize control of the airport.

Actually, now I think about it I might have been watching Die Hard 2. Laughing

Thanks all.....now, second follow-up question.....

Does anyone here fly with EasyJet and receive emails prior to flying along the lines of "please allow yourself extra time due to possible delays at security checks"?

Thanks.

I may have gotten one in the past, maybe a year ago. It may just be a standard message they send out to travellers, or it may be related to the ski season; I think this is the busiest time of the year for GVA.

David, I use GVA-coitrin airport frequetly. I left from there three days ago noticing nothing special, even more calmful than usual...

Indeed, one often receives "please go to airport earlier" message at the beginnig of common vacation periods. But 20-30 min earlier than usually is quite enough. If you are a frequent flyer, you will not care about this kind of warning as you have a special passage. GVA airport is generally very well organised...

Agreed with jimmy, I shuffle through GVA on average 3 to 4 times a month, and in my opinion it is by far the quickest and most efficient airport in Europe. Ski season only increases easy jet bag drop off wait times, not seen issues on any other air line, or area. Get speedy boarding to combat that, that's my little trick anyway.

Kevin, you  are right, GVA airport is not bad. But some other airports are even more convenient. For example, your can drop your baggages at the center of the town (don't have to bring them to the airport check-in and you can do that well before your departure time, really convenient...). I am sure you know which airports I am talking abouit. I guess GVA will never provide with such kind of service...

Cheers,

If you are flying Swiss, Lufthansa and selected airlines, you can actually check in your bags at Cornavin and receive your boarding pass, a day before the day of your flight. This applies also to other stations including Zurich and Bern.

Hi all,

I was flying out of GVA on easyjet on Saturday and received such an email from easyjet.

"Please plan some extra time for your journey through Geneva Airport this weekend due to possible delays through security. The queues are expected to take up to 45mns."

My flight was at 10 am. I went to the airport a bit earlier. Actually the queue for security wasn't that long, just the usual saturday mayhem at GVA airport during ski season. Last time, 4 weeks ago,  the queue was very long and it took 40 min to get through security.

I'm headed out this morning to catch a flight and will see what things look like. I honestly suspect the warnings are related to the season, as I go through security several times a week at Privatport and have not seen anything out of the ordinary.

The other thing worthy of mention is that this is Car Show week. There's a lot af additional passenger traffic as a result of the show.

Didn't notice anything outside of the ordinary. Except for the traffic getting into the airport - YUK! Inside , there were lots of skiers and lots of folks heading to and from the car show. Security was no more difficult than it usually is. Other than people trying to carry on far too much stuff than they actually need. (As a frequent traveler, this never ceases to amaze me;-)

it was the wedding of the Olympic dressage rider with Wills, Kate and various others in attendance. suspect this may have had something to do with it.
