Shipping Costs (Container) - USA to Geneva/Nyon

I am looking to possibly ship furniture from USA (California) to Geneva/Nyon area.  It would probably be close to an entire container (queen bed, dresser, dining table w/ 6 chairs, 2 couches, armchair, along with personal belongings).  It would depend on the cost of shipping versus the cost of buying replacements here.  Anyone have an idea of approximate costs to ship?

Thanks!!

I'm not sure, but I heard the $2000-$3000 range for a container, we're moving back to California from France and we're looking at 1 meter cubed for 300€. Just enough to ge the non-replacebles shipped like computers, photos and memorabelia.

I can tell you that Switzerland is more expencive than France and you will not get good quality for a reasonable price in ether. A pillowtop queen with a metal frame and box spring is like a €2000 bed. If you can get a metal frame, apperently metal springs here are made of gold.

A €500 couch is absolute junk, so you should be ready to spend €1000 if you like comfort. All in all, if you like your stuff you should ship it. My wife is French but after 2 years in America she is even frustrated with what is offered here. There is little selection even in the high end range and things we take for granted just aren't offered here. Hard to explane you'll figure it out when you get here. There is always Ikea if your not staying forever.

Just to keep in mind, there are 20 ft and 40 ft. containers. From your description, I would say you are looking at a 20 ft container.

Hi Anita,

I guess you will need 20 feet containers as its 30 to 40% cheaper than the 40 feets but bring in mind that it takes only max 24 tons and will be shipped from USA to Anvers or Hamburg and after that will be transported by camion.

the freight rate should be around 1200 usd from USA to Antwerp port (max 1500 usd) but you need to add after the transport cost from Antwerp to Geneva. You should find a company to do the whole operation from pick up the container in USA and the transport until Geneva after that they will find some vehicule to get your things at your home.

regards

Mohamed
