For supermarkets (not Auchan):
* In Ferney-Voltaire there is a Leclerc and a Carrefour
* In Annemasse there are Migros and Intermarche (and probably several more)
* I'm sure there are also shops in other places (St Julien and Douvaine). Let us know where you live in Geneva and we can tell you what's close.
For clothes:
Depends on what you're looking for. Annemasse and St Julien have decent town centers, but you may actually want to travel to Annecy or Lyon for better choice.

The only Auchan nearby (actually the only one in regions 74, 01 or 39) is in Epagny, close to Annecy.

Unless you want to pay extra taxes when returning too Switzerland with your groceries, keep them out of sight. A certain quantitiy is allowed. To my knowledge, especially for meat and milk, if you go over the max amount, you will be charged very heavily.

Really? I was not aware of that. Some people I know shop in France weekly but since I do not drive I will not be able to carry too many things anyway. Thanks for letting me know though, I ll keep that in mind.

Thanks Edward
. I am not properly established in Geneva yet but I will be living in St Jean not far from the airport. As for clothes I usually get them from shopping centers or small shops like Camaieu (theres quite a few in France). I am originally from France but I am quite unfamiliar with this part of the country and since I will be living in Geneva for the first time I feel a bit lost.
Thanks Edward

very heavily !?
is that first hand experience ?
I came back by boat from Thonon (arriving in Lausanne) a few weeks ago, Swiss customs were waiting at the shore, and everybody with a bag had to pass through customs office. I had groceries for about 40 Euro, and they made me pay some cents (no joke; less then 1 Swiss Franc). Admitting, I had no resh meat or milk; "charcuterie", yes, but nor fresh meat. And A LOT of cheese.
So, no idea if it's really a certain amount you can't surpass, or if they really just make you pay the Swiss TVA on what you bought.
So, I'd say when they "get you" at the border with your groceries, you pay another 7 or so % on your shopping.... which is negligable, if you paid 40% less in the store, I'd say...

Just did shopping in Annemasse at Migros. Loads of cars from Geneva. Fully packed. No border patrol.
