"Sit" overnight at the Geneva Aiport for an early morning flight?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if its possible to "sit" overnight at the Geneva airport assuming one has to take the very early morning flight?

I have a flight to Brussels that leaves at 06:50, the earliest train from my place will not take me there in time. There are a few options I have considered so far..

1. Get a hotel in Geneva for the night(expensiive!!)

2. Get a hotel in France(Ferney etc), I think earyl morning public transport might be an issue and also I will be crossing the border with potentially dutiable goods. I know I can explain I am flying later etc, just want to avoid the hassle and potential delays due to it. This is a reasonable cost option i.e < CHF 100.

3. Park in long stay car parks. I'll be gone for around 10 days, so the cost is the same as room for the night in Geneva, nearly CHF 200.

4. Taxi in to Lausanne for an earlier train(I live near Montreux), that's around CHF 125

All suggestions welcome, even humorous ones :-)

Ciao,

Suleman

i managed to find a room in geneva through booking.com which cost 200 for 2 nights, so maybe have a look on there to see if you can find even cheaper for one night. Failing that wear a mask saying you're protesting to free pussy riot for 8 hours overnight... ;)

There's a building being renovated on rue-henri-frederic Amiel in Delices district in Geneva.  They've already built the underground parking, you can lift open the fence and drive into it.  It'll be dark, but so what!

Alternatively, I always thought the best free long-term parking in Geneva was on Chemin Francois-Chavaz in Onex, around 46.188054,6.096401.  You can either taxi or bus from there to the airport.

I hate parking in Geneva, and don't have a blue zone sticker.  Any other suggestions of long term parking are welcome!

Have you thought of the parking valet alternatives (like parking-friend or easy-park)? They're cheaper than P51 if you're away more than 2-3 days.

http://www.parking-friend.com/

Looking at parking friend, for 10 days it woud cost 20 + 12*10 = 140chf...

If you are in France I assume you can enter Genevsa airport from the French sector and then go into transit avoiding the French customs

But then it does depend just a little bit on the 'dubiousness' of your goods

We caught early flights at 6.50 last month, they say they lock  the doors at midnight so we got there before. There were still chairs out at pret a manger so we stayed there all night, I'd say there must have been at Least 40 people in the same situation.

Security guards walk around to check on things, and cleaners come in and move you at about 5am but other than that it was fine :)

The short answer is yes, you can sit at the airport all night. Get there before midnight tho, as they don't let in folks after that.

Stay overnight in a Youth hostel in Geneva - you just need a bed to crash somewhere for a few hours and it will surely be cheaper than any hotel.

Cheers,

Theres a Primére class hotel on the French side , Ferney Voltaire.

http://www.premiereclasse.com/en/default.aspx

Rates average at 50eur a night, then you can arrange a cab for morning transfer, get the cab to drop you at the entrance of French Secteur of GVA airport.  Cab should not cost more than 6 Euro absolute max, as the drive is less than 10 minutes.

http://www.taxi.fr/taxi/ferney-voltaire

When you enter French Secteur you pass through the doors marked 'Switzerland', pass a window which is technically French Customs, but in my time passing through in nearly 2 years I have never seen it manned. Then you arrive in baggage hall and head out Swiss customs, first flights in are usually around 7am, so I doubt anyone will be there too.

So overall spend is 60eur, a little better to start a journey relaxed. Cool

If you walk over the motorway from the airport using the pedestrian bridge opposite departures, there is a small wood! behind this is a football pitch and BBQ area.

I put a tent up there once to stay overnight, 4 mins from the airport. Nobody bothered me;-)

4. Taxi in to Lausanne for an earlier train(I live near Montreux), that's around CHF 125

All suggestions welcome, even humorous ones :-)

Ciao,

Thanks for the suggestion, but not sure about this Paul.

I think there is separate checkin section for the French sector on Suisse side. The French side is across the runway/tarmac, so I guess not contiguous, actually that would be cool, if there was an entry from the french side, then the hotels on the french side would be easily accessible.

Hotel in France & then taxi sounds like a good low cost option too.

Thanks! A very good suggestion, I was thinking bus, but it was not working out, the taxi, with link you posted is a very cost effective.

I will check out this hotel.
