[/quote]No metal balls. All pieces were wooden. Looks nothing like them. They would stand out in Signal de Bougy. I have a nagging feeling it is a traditional game...but as there have been no answers I guess it must have been a self made invented game. If only I thought to take a picture or even film it on my mobile.Maybe it's a really traditional swiss game...did the players look like the ones below?

I was in Signal de Bougy the other day and saw a group of people play a skittles like game. I'll try to decribe i as best as I can There were 3 people on 2 teams. Each team had 5 square block like pieces of wood (approx 15cm tall ) lined up in front of them and in the middle of the playing area was a larger square block (approx 25cm tall) looking a bit like a King chess piece. They seemed to take turns throwing the smaller blocks to a new area standing them up and try to knock them down by throwing 2 wooden batons (approx 30cm long ) at them. It looked to me as if it was some sort of traditional Swiss game but could be just a personally invented thing. Any ideas?

Reminds of the Finnish game Molkky.
