Snowboarding

Hi

I am in Geneva for the winter to do some french classes and also snowboard. Now that we are finally getting some snow i was wondering if i could get some advice. I want to do as much snowboarding as i can. I dont have a car and was wondering if there was any trains or buses (good priced ones) that go to resorts around this area that could be done in a day trip.

Also if anyone knows a group that runs trips to ski fields for a reasonable price and for a decent level (day trips or over nights)

and finally  if anyone who has a car and wants someone to share petrol with. Let me know, i would be super keen to get in touch

cheers Matt

Sign up to the Lausanne Snowboarding Buddies Group. There are plenty of trains to lots of different resorts, depending on where you want to go. If you don't want the hassle of sitting in traffic at the end of a full day of boarding, then it might be best to take the train. There's a 'snow and rail' ticket you can get at the train station that makes it worthwhile for lots of resorts.

I've been going the past few weekends, up high and will go now every weekend.

How much boarding have you done before?

heyTobias,

cool thats what i thought would be the case but sooooo many resorts out there hard to know what ones are best.

Im not into riding park anymore i perfer off piste, hiking, riding pow....(when i can get it). What are the more steeper resorts for freeriding that could be a day trip  by train from geneva... (i cant seem to find trains that go into france and chamonix that leave early)

I have done quite a lot of riding not as much as i would have liked for the last couple years because of with work and travel etc but amped to get some days in this season.

Whats the deal with the snow and rail ticket, did a quick google but some info from a user is always good..

Cheers for the reply, i also joined that group

Try the International Ski Club of Geneva (google ski club international de Geneve

Buses go to the ski resorts (google gare routiere geneva

For steepness I would say Argentiere Chamonix are the best.

It is aslo possible to do Verbier by train to le Chable from where you get the telecabine straight up.  Probably quicker by car and no hassle with parking and walking to the slopes

Hey mate,

How is the exploration going? I have been using sbb.ch snow'n'rail deals 20-30% discount on rail and lift passes. You will need a 1/2 fare card from sbb, very good inverstment. sbb website has better info this season.

Verbier is famous for access to offpiste and it's 2.5hr by train to the cablecar.  I havn't been to Les Diablerets / glacier 3000 2.5hr by train. Will check it out soon.

Last season was a shocker, I spent most of my time at Saas Fee, up in high alt good conditions. No off piste due to glacier / cravass in Saas. 3.5hr on train.

I have no expierence off piste but hoping for an introduction this season. I have been researching free ride areas and hope to check them out this season - Lotchental, Zinal and Verbier.

Got any questions on rail deals or looking for a buddy I'll be heading somewhere every weekend.

Conditions are looking sweet,

Lucas
