well in here and out there there is plenty of nuts. That's life. Just ignore them and go ahead. I happened to come across some pretty weird individuals with questionable behaviour on Glocals, and they just became fun material when telling stories with friends.

i once had a person send me a friend request on glocals that i didn't even know. i mean, i'd never met them before in my life. i accepted and wrote to them but they never wrote back. i mean, what kind of insane person randomly adds people as their friends and never writes to them! CRAZY i tell you! Crazy..

That's what anonymity does - it provides an easy vehicle for nutters.  I bet they don't have their photos posted, nor do they provide any info on themselves.  Your first question to scare them off would be to ask who they work for . . .  now you can call his/her boss !

Speaking of which, the nutters aren't just guys - there are plenty of nutter women out there as well, the difference to men being that the women don't flaunt it on their introduction, but believe me, it does come out at one point later on

One advantage for you ladies is that you can recognise the nutter straight off - for us guys the nutterettes take time to come out of their shells, usually wasting our time and money !

Poster, the scary thing is that actually, the guys I am talking about were not anonimous at all. One of them even told me where he worked and what his profession was.

Types of nutters

Some may be selective nutters, singling out you for example.  They would hope this tactic would entice you to say “sure, here is my facebook page, my phone number, my door code, and I am free in 30mins if you are around)

Whereas others may be “net throwing nutters” in which they are purely opportunists playing a numbers game.  They throw out the net to 100 girls wishing to catch a non-nutter (such as yourself) off guard and into their net.  When seeking new employment these “net throwers” probably also send their C.V.’s to all company’s in Geneva including the employer which they are already working with.

The others may just be “nutters throwing nets out for other nutters”.  These types are simply looking to find another nutter just like themselves.  They still throw out the net to 100 girls and potentially someone responds “sure, here is my facebook page, my phone number, my door code, and I am free in 30mins if you are around).  In which case is it wrong for a nutter who is looking for their own kind really a nutter?

I think you've hit upon an idea for a new group.. "Desperate for a ..", then everybody that joins the group knows the score.. It will have all the chickens in one place.. ;)

Some times I received random messages, but I don't really mind it since glocals is meant to be social-networking. As long its done with a modicum of decency and respect for others, then I guess it doesn really harm...

But I do find it very strange and insincere that people posting ads for housing to get the attention of a person and then trying to convert a "housing ad" in to "drink/tea/coffee" meeting to achieve other motives...

It's not my style, but I've seen it work time and time again.. this guy had a quite good picture, which, of course, was the reason it worked. He supplied no info at all. Just the pic, which was real, and a short message. At the very most, a two-liner. It was also at a designated datingsite, not here..

I chatted with this guy a couple of times on Glocals, we never met, and one day he called my company, made up a story and managed to get my business mobile number. I can tell you I was not happy when he called me in the middle of a conversation with colleagues.

Despite my not warm reaction, the story didn't finish there. He actually showed up at my company reception the day after waiting for me at 6pm.

I had done the sad choice of putting my company name in my profile. I learnt the lesson.

I was online on Glocals during my lunchbreak when this woman initiated a chat. Never heard of her, but seemed friendly to begin with. Usual sort of polite greetings and small chat.

After a few minutes she started going on about a favor, which turned out to be helping her to get away from her husband who apparently had her locked up in their appartment somewhere in Zurich.

If it was an attempt on a date it is the weirdest one yet, and if it was actually true I guess the husband is the real nutter and she was just being creative out of deperation.

Either way I brushed her off and didn´t go online for a while after that. Getting involved in some psycho husband, mentally disturbed wife kind of thing is not really my kind of fun.

Here's my chance to add to this story.

It doesn't just happen on glocals. One night I was out with a female friend. We had been out since 4pm, and by 11 it was time to go to our respective homes. Yes, we had had a bit to drink, and found ourselves engaging in conversation with the people around us in the various bars we had been to. My friend can walk home, I need to take a tram, so we were about to say goodbye at my tram stop when I guy comes up and starts talking to us. Specifically talking to my friend, asking for a her number and if she would like to go on a date. We had not seen or spoken to this guy before that evening at all. He was very persistent, she even pretended that we were married, but he just on with this. I decided to move on and just walk away but he followed. I said this to her, she didn't believe me, so I had to walk to her home.

As we walking home, I can see this guy is still following, at some distance and hiding in the shadows. Now if I knew what was going to happen later, I would have walked to a police station instead, but what I am about to say will sound incredible. We got back to her place, and she went in. I didn't think the guy saw which door she went into. I know her boyfriend is inside as well. I walked back into town and the man following us came out of the shadows and walked away from me. He must have been 400m in front of me. I thought I had scared him off enough. Though I lost him. Later that night when I was at home my phone rang. It was the boyfriend of my friend asking me what the guy who followed us looked like. After I left, he had gotten into their building, and somehow found the right apartment, we can only guess by asking someone or trying all the doors. He went to their apartment and still tried to ask her out on a date, or to come in for coffee. Even with her real boyfriend there! He had to be physcally pushed away from the door to close it.

Luckily for all concerned he never came back. It was a worrying few days after that for all of us.

So be warned.

I mean, this website is great for so many things, and a LOT of my life in Geneva I have thanks to glocs...my apartment that I have with my girl is one of those things. 

However, the lonely hearts / creep aspect is one thing that glocals has a bit of a problem with. I think there are a lot of people in Geneva who either don't have the social capacity to go out and meet potential partners or they are just a bit weird. Either way glocals provides a massive massive pond of people you can meet online who you know live in your city. Of course for someone either lonely (probably transient expat) or someone looking for naughty shit (creepy local scumbag) will have a massive field day on glocals.

Every time my girl (shes Brazilian/Italian) or ANY of her friends are on here, there's immediately some French dude asking if they like to dance samba/salsa (add other random activity here).

It's just kinda how it is - some are innocent people who have nothing to do, the majority have as much class as a dude hollerin across the bar "yo what up baby girl you wanna get on dis?"...

If you feel the latter is the case, do what mon bon pot Nicolas Anelka did... and say something starting with "Va te faire.... " :-D
