So what's normal?

Personally, I make no comment about what follows, but would be interested to hear what others on Glocals think about this.
Last night at 21.15, driving in torrential rain in the middle of a thunder and lightning storm between Ouchy and Pully, on the other side of the road, there was a Swiss cop, with his motorbike parked on the pavement, writing out tickets in this incredibly inclement weather, for motorists who had presumably overstayed their alloted time-frame for parking.
Hope he is paid overtime!!!

Yup - that's normal!

About as normal as.....a couple of weeks ago, in bright sunshine, 3 police cars (yes 3.....) were parked on the wide bend on the slip road from Montreux onto the motorway (the cynical amongst would say "hiding on the bend") checking if people had their headlamps on dipped and pulling over every other car.

In the meantime, the traffic on the motorway was slowing down......

Due to a car colliding with a lorry not less than 1km along the road and not a police car in sight.....Cool

The bottom line is that Swiss police are cowards, targeting motorists over real criminals!

And they seem to us to be overly officious.

Got stopped a while back {with 74 numberplates} coming out of the spiral from the motorway at Villeneuve. Ferocious looking cop stopped us, perused all our documents, Carte Grise, driver's licence, passports et al. Then stood for almost one minute with his hand in front of our car not letting us draw out until absolutely nothing was in sight for 1 km!

Equally as officious as that 'orrible bunch in security at Luton Airport!!!!!

Emadysh, i agree that minor infractions take alot of there time, but COWARDS is a very insulting word considering your a guest in a very very safe country. One day you will regret saying such, because you can not imagine how many undercover police there are all over the city of Geneva.

And they are not Cowards, further historically they are Mercenaries, so beware as they will take note of who you are.

Jeffery, Scooter drivers are fine, what is your issue? Its all the Idiot Car drivers that waste alot of time and petrol on the road, why cant we all drive scooters or take public transports???

I'm more than just a guest here Dave! I'm a "C" permit holder, been working and paying lots of tax to Swiss authorities since 2000. And the only time that I had to report a break-in, I was the one who was made to look like a criminal! We're lucky that ISIS hasn't reached the shores of Europe yet and I hope it never does because we'll be left defending for ourselves while Swiss police melt away like rachlette cheese!

"Jeffery, Scooter drivers are fine, what is your issue? Its all the Idiot Car drivers that waste alot of time and petrol on the road, why cant we all drive scooters or take public transports???"

Yeah that'll work Dave !! I can just see it now - thousands of scooters jostling for position at the lights with no regards for anyone, ALL breaking the law by driving on the wrong side of the road, and also putting their child's life at risk by swerving in and out of traffice while carrying their loved ones on the back.....Yep that will SURELY work...
