Hey, have you seen my Surf Group? Are you already part of it??? It's not just about paddling in the lake (done that anyway, and ready to do it again from time to time), but organizing real surf trips

Now there is a post for Fuerteventura in October, but on top I organize weekend surf trips to the French west coast when there is a nice swell

Has anyone tried that type of upright paddling on a surfboard?  I think it's a kind of Polynesian fishing craft???

Hi Max,

what you refer to is called stand up paddle board surfing. It's not a fishing craft, it's the oldest surfing craft. When there was nothing but wood to make a board, the board had to be wide and therefore it was also heavy. It disappeared for almost 100 years...now it's very much in vogue

In Geneva you can rent a stand up paddle for 30chf per hour...a real reap off, considering that there are no waves to surf!!!

On the beginners classes, well, I'm surely not a teacher...so no, I don't directly organize that. But wherever I go there are schools, in France is full of good quality schools and they work throughout the winter too. In the surf trip I'm about to make I'm going in a surfcamp (Billabong in Fuerte) where there is a good school also

Stand Up Paddle (aka SUP) was a hit in Geneva this summer. We ran a BuyClub promotion on it for glocals members, and over 150 folks decided to give it a try.

I tried it too, and admit it's a lot harder than it looks!

I also go paddling on occasions, to keep the arms and back in shape. Also check out the Swiss Surfing team website, sponsored by Dakine, Vitronox, etc.

Unfortunately they are mostly in Swiss German area.

They do have the Swiss Surfing Championships mostly in Sept every year in france. then they go to the European championships and also to the World championships. Further have river surfing contests

I just got back from Tanzania where.....loads of people were doing it.  It looks like a solid workout.

Is doing it in winter an option?

Hi all! good to see this thread coming alive :) To indonesia for christmas and new years and would like to paddle in the lake before I go.. would anyone know where I could get hold of/borrow a small wetsuit and board in order to do that?

Hi there, so glad there is finally some life in this post, but sad it is only after summer is over... ;-) Anyways, I would be up until end November I guess (but travelling now until Nov 11th), I have a 5'' wetsuit, but that will only take so much, happy to give it a try though... let me know via msg.
