Suggestions for places to rent

Hello everybody,

I'm Evi and I'm moving in March-April to Switzerland for my PhD and now I'm in the phase of searching accommodation. I would like to ask all the nature lovers (or anyone that knows!) if you could propose any towns close to Geneva (easily accesible by train) but even closer to nature (hikes, cycling paths, anything related!) that I could search for a room?

Thank you very much!

Best Regards

Evi

Everywhere in Switzerland is close to nature.  Geneva is the city but on a bike you are in the country side in minutes.

The train to travel from the country side in to the city, will be the same as the train to travel from the city to the country side.

St Cergue is a mountain village up from Nyon.  Thats country side, probably cheaper than the citys to live and good train links.  But not ideal if you do ever want to have drinks or dinner in the city in the evening

Or you culd try neighbouring France, just over the border.

Where we live, the surroundings are marvellous, lots of huge trees, hiking tracks, walks along the lakeside, but it is too far from Geneva city. However, there are lovely areas in France which have good transport links into and out of Gva city on a regular basis.

As a rule of thumb, if you have to catch a bus which is on a route with a letter rather than a number, the transport link is going to be difficult! Smile

Live in the city and cycle to "nature" when the weather is good.

You probably don't want to be cycling in the dark during a blizzard when it is minus 20 outside.

You can try and find a flatshare or room rental here on Glocals.

Maybe not always difficult but certainly time-consuming and often inconvenient.

Thank you very much everybody! Your opinion is very much appreciated :) I'm looking for every option and it's really helpful to hear from people that already have experience of the place!

Best regards to everyone

I live in Versoix, and its great for walks just at the back door, and 5 mins to Lac...

Its also just 2 mins form teh local train, and then a 14 min train ride to central Geneva. Its quiet, wiuth views over Lac Leman to Mt Blanc.

I have a room to rent for March, if you send your email..I can send furtehr info.
