Swine flue, anyone?
Jun 16, 2009 @ 00:18
Does anyone know if there have been any known cases of swine flue in Geneva, or anywhere nearby? I haven't heard of any, but I kind of find that a bit strange, since it seems to exist everywhere else. Especially since there are so many people traveling in and out of Geneva all the time.

:P you didn't know? Coming from Mexico, outside Schengen, the H1N1 virus need a visa to enter Switzerland :w00t:
At least one case of serious suspicion has been disclosed by GE sanitary autorities, ca. 4-5 in Vaud, all under control... hey it's not bubonic plague folks! it's only your regular flu with a twist. Your standard seasonal flu (yes that's influenza) has killed over 350'000 people around the world, 13'000 people in the US only. No media ever printed a word about it...
Cheers and stop sneezing lol

"[Tongue] you didn't know? Coming from Mexico, outside Schengen, the H1N1 virus need a visa to enter Switzerland [w00t] "
Aaah... well, that explains it!
I actually just found out that there have been at least three confirmed cases in Geneva so far. This was told to me by someone who had heard it from someone who does medical research in Geneva. So... if this is true, why does the public not get informed about it? If I am at risk of catching swine flu when I leave the house, I would really like to know about it so that I can take precaution!

Thanks, Isa! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who is paranoid about catching the swine flu...

if you listen to the news, they normally inform you. at least, i hear about it every day on the radio, so some people are disseminating the info.
that said, as swisskiss pointed out, i believe that unless you're very young or very old, you'll be just fine with a shot, should you contract it. that and they'll place you under quarantine for a couple of weeks, but that's it.

The Swine Flu is a figment of the media imagination. For example, the first case of it in Croatia was proclaimed (everybody freak out!). But then, the guy recovered with tea and rest and without any drugs. Then they said the tests were a mistake, it was just the regular flu! - http://www.jutarnji.hr/clanak/art-2009,6,15,,166728.jl
But really, I'm worried about the flying pigs...

Nice example! Guy recovers from something that wasn't H1N1. I've done that literally every time I've recovered from anything. Last week I fell of my bike and when I came to my feet, I simultaneously recovered from AIDS, liver cancer, and Huntingtons. That was quite a good day, actually. Took a load off my mind, I can tell you.

Oh really, hrv_nomad, I wouldn't worry about the flying pigs. They mostly show up at cash machine line ups or similar long queues, so as long as you avoid long queues, you should be safe. Although I have to add that even if you do encounter one, they are usually harmless and only out to entertain you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8b9EckGPx0 .

And again that quoting function doesn't seem to work. But that was of course referring to Julian's Winnie the Pooh link.
