Swiss Law: Pedestrian v Car?

Anyone know Swiss law regarding vehicles? I was hit by a car that turned a corner while I was standing next to my scooter (getting ready to start it). An impartial observer wrote a statement that the car hit me.

The police officer who finally called, 11 days later when I sent an email inquiry, indicated that I was partially at fault because I didn't see the car. Does this sound accurate?

How long is reasonable to expect an answer from the police in Geneva?

I assume you got the number of the car.  If not, forget it.  Also if you were not actually hurt there is probably not much point in pursuing

But the officers comment does seem strange but without more details impossible for anybody to comment

The individual had been at a conference my organization held. And the police did come to take a report, since I was injured (and am still on crutches).

In the country where I lived before, drivers are responsible for ensuring they don't hit pedestrians, full stop. It was a surprise to learn that it is not the case here.

Another individual who had been at the conference observed the incident and wrote a statement saying that I was standing still when the car turned a corner and - apparently not seeing me - accelerated and hit me. Even with this written statement, the policeman seems to want to place part of the blame with me for not seeing the car.

you know how it works here. the fact that you were there means that you must be partially responsible!!

no, but seriously, the only recompense is that you are covered for all medical costs. you have no real chance of receiving anything in a civil action.

however, if the police have made a report, than the driver will most likely have some penalties. a fine, and even temporary suspension of their driver's license.

I'm sorry for what happened to you but I think that in Switzerland and in any other country I know of, pedestrian are only allowed to be on sidewalks and on pedestrian crossings (although in Geneva many people walk in the middle of the streets)
