Switzerland...

more seriously, it's a question of taste. What do you want : big know brands or small chocolate makers ?

Belgian chocolate is excellent but is made very differently from Swiss chocolate. Comparing Belgian chocolate to Swiss chocolate is a bit like comparing Hassan tea to Darjeeling.

For me the best milk chocolate is Swiss and the best black chocolate is French. Belgian chocolate is the best for cream chocolate like Godiva.

Try Auer or Zeller in the rues basses or Paganel in Carouge.

Clearly your request was for Swiss Chocolate, why people start comparing????

I dont know your idea of Chocolate.

Do you want the bar chocolate and boxed , name brand?

Godiva, Manor, Mercure are good places

Or you want local shops custom chocolates:

Geneva/Swiss -Go allong the Rue du Rive or rue du Marché and you will find some good choco places.

Unless you want to further line the pockets of Nestle with your hard earned cash, try to avoid big brands like Cailler and support family run Chocolateries.

For Geneva try - http://www.rohr.ch/en/ I worked with one of the family and she'd bring chocolate goodies into the office every week and they were (allegedly) divine!

For Lausanne try - http://www.chocolatsblondel.ch/ is also legend.

For everyday munching, apparently you can't beat Frey.

Don't make yourself sick! Tongue out

As you see, i put in next line what is Geneva/Swiss.

The above line does not indicate what is swiss or other, its just for the basic name brands or stored. So Read next time,

I knew some numb nut would say that about Godiva, I know this and I would never buy one bite from Godiva myself. Its way too expensive for what you get. And in my opinion for a bar of Frey (Migros) chocolate at CHF 2- versus one piece of Godiva, I will enjoy what we have at a comparabable excellent price, but agian, its all ones choice, tastes, and choice.

Chocolate is ones own passion or fantasy. Its like Beer, many many types and tastes. But Just enjoy it.

Reka ,

Wow your smart ars .....you cant read? I see you didnt suggest anything, not very helpful???

Did I say that everything is Swiss at: 'Godiva, Manor, Mercure are good places'

Manor and Mercure have a big choice that includes many types and tastes, not just Swiss, and most everyone knows this.

Still why are people comparing, the thread was a question where to get Chocolate , not what is best or better. Manor and Mercure have big selection of many types of chocolate.

But just my 2 cents on comparing, Cadbury is like also comparing Hersey with Chocolate, wow. Seriously 10 to 20% cococa is not chocolate in my book. When even the basic swiss chocolate has 54% or more Cocoa. Further if there is more Sugar, Soya, carnuba wax, flavorings, and other products it is just cheep rubbish. Like wine, Beer, Whiskey education , some dont know any better.

On the issue of knowledge and education, people who live in glasshouses and use initial capital letters indiscriminately in a sentence should not throw stones.

Piu, sorry but it seems most people from this thread just want to compare and not give you ideas where to get Swiss Chocolate.

Richie, no casting stones but just clean your glasses and read from the start of this thread. If someone asked for Belgium or English chocolate, they would have asked for such, but the thread is Swiss chocolate. Guess you cant help, not suggesions, etc?

Carolyn, I agree Rohr is very good.

I love the pavés de Genève, by Stettler or Philippe Pascoët, two small but excellent makers. It's a local speciality, just small cubes of chocolate, nothing else, but what chocolate ! It melts in your mouth and all the flavours come to your nose... Mmmmmmmm...... If you go to Stettler, try also the amazing coated almonds.

I like Läderach for their chocolate with nuts and almonds.

Industrial chocolate can be excellent too, I am a big fan of Lindt, with their Fleur de sel, their Nougat and café macchiato or their amandes & vanille bourbon (to be bought in any decent Coop). Never managed to open a block without finishing it within half an hour or less.

And don't forget Ragusa, this bar of chocolate with nuts, that you can buy everywhere (I recommand the one with milk chocolate, I'm not enthisiastic about the black chocolate one).

Why not visit Stettler’s laboratory (42 avenue Blanc, near WMO in Geneva)  for a  taster or two or three and a warm welcome.  Not expensive and snall groups preferred so you really get a chance to ask questions.

Wow Godiva is only €16.-- per kilogram? That's unbelievable as it was twice that price when we lived in Belgium 5 years ago. Where can we buy them please?
