SwissCom electrician?

Hi everyone.  I am going through a typical Geneva move, where everything is painful and nothing works out like one would hope.  Anyway, part of this process has been trying to switch my pre-existing SwissCom account to the new place.  The previous tenants did not have a SwissCom account, so SwissCom tells me I have to pay an electrician to have a "PT Box" put into the new place.  Has anyone else gone through this before? Any recommendations?

Many thanks! D

Yes I worked for Swisscom some time ago and if you move to another area, you have to get an electrician and pay for it. That is normal and if you have a permit other than C you have put a deposit, I am not sure any more I think with Permit C you also have to leave a deposit. Why that, because lots of foreigners as well as Swiss anyway dont pay their bills sometimes.

Good luck

Dorothy’s right.  It’s a long-established custom because I remember paying, each time we moved, CHF 200 deposit for the fixed line telephone connection and that was way back in the “good old days”.

Best of luck, R.

I understand the need for a deposit, unfortunately that's not what I am referring to.  I have had a SwissCom account and associated deposit for over three years.  I am moving to a new apartment, and the previous tenants did not use SwissCom.  Therefore, according to the company, I have to hire an electrician to install a box into the new apartment to carry over my pre-existing account.  In other words, to remain a SwissCom customer, I have to pay 180chf.  Geneva 1: me 0

I was advised to ring 3 different electricians and pick the cheapest when I was in a similar position. Was a while ago now, so can't remember now how much I paid, sorry

In my case, Swisscom did this for free but you need to check with your regie as well as they also sometimes would cover this cost.
