Swisscom vs Naxoo vs Cablecom

Hi,

I will be moving soon in my new appt in servette and I am thinking about subscribing for a TV contract to...? I don't know which is the best TV provider between swiscom, naxoo and cablecom regarding some spcific points like the offer, service quality, after sales service, price & other things I may forget to mention and which are good to know.

I read that swiscom is the leader in switz although it's not the less expensive, but I dont know what you guys think about the others (naxoo and cablecom). and I went on comparis to find out more about the 3, but I could not find enough and updated infos?

Do you guys have any idea or experienxe?

thanks in advance

Marc

I have found cablecom sale people to be dishonest. I have helped two people in disputes with the company based on misrepresentations that they made. Although they offer high speed internet and allegedly many TV channels (but not in Geneva), the internet often only comes in at half the speed and the TV channels are often abotu 66% of what they claim. Swisscom and Sunrise often offer better deals.

One poor guy, Cablecom dishonestly even tried to sign up for three of the same service contracts, because he had asked for information on a French wesbite three times. He never intended to signup at all and ultimately did not.

Having said this, a few companies I know have used them for a couple of years with only moderate complaints.

As I would advise for dealings with any Swiss company be very careful to read all the papers, or get someone who knows French well to do so, and make sure you have what you want in writing. You might also want to make sure you know how to reach the Swiss and Euroepan consumer advocates related to internet and phone service.

Having struck out at Cabelcom, I should admit that I have assisted friends with complaints about Swisscom, Naxoo, Orange and Sunrise as well. Swisscom seems to be the best, if you want to pay an extra 30% for the slightly more reliable service.

According to my research, Cablecom is the only one that offers a SmartCard for a CI/CI+ slot if you don't want a decoder box and wires spaghetti... You will just have one remote control for all. I used to have the CI/CI+ solution in Moscow, and I enjoyed it a lot, but here in Geneva Cablecom does not cover all residential areas, and is unfortunately not available in my apartment block.

So I am now really interested in seeing what 'Smart TV' sets can offer in terms of watching TV channels online through a TV set, without a computer. I am not sure there is a proper TV set model on the market though. I've heard of Google TV models using Andriod from Sony, but they seem to have failed and been discontinued. Apple also announced plans to manifacture TV sets... But what is available now?

I am also wondering if you can install iTunes, Vimeo or Veoh apps on your TV set (one of those from Samsung, for instance) and watch TV channels through them? Has anyone tried anything like this? What's been your experience?

I am particular interested in Russian-language channels which are not really available from Swisscom and the like (they just have one!)

You cannot have Cablecom TV in Geneva, Naxoo has a monopoly over the cable network here. However Naxoo does have a smart card solution called Naxoo One and their basic subscription Simply is 7/month. It only includes an English speaking Russian channel called Russia Today as far as I know. I think Naxoo came a long way in terms of offering an affordable TV subscription.

You can also get a Naxoo/Cablecom combined deal with Naxoo providing the TV and Cablecom providing the internet via your existing TV socket.

Hi catalin,

Thank you so much for this post, it's really helpful for me!!! If I can still get an CI card with Naxoo, I will definitely see into it!

I've also found another theoretical option (needs testing): one can install a Viaway applet (there may be other apps with the same function, but that's the one I found) on recent TV set models, and watch 1000+ TV channels through it. The quality may be not that good as compared to cable, but they have a lot of choices on the menu. So once I buy a TV set, I will test this, too

Swisscom is the best, best quality, best speed etc. As someone told Cablecom is not honest. Your bill for cablecom will be bigger then what they promise.
