Strikes to disrupt Franco-Swiss links

A fresh round of strikes in France will disrupt rail and air traffic between that country and Switzerland starting Wednesday night, officials warned.

Lyria, the company operating high-speed trains between the two countries, said eight TGV trains would be cancelled on Thursday.

Four trains from Paris to Geneva and two each from the French capital to Lausanne and Neuchatel/Bern will be scrubbed, the operator said.

Service between Paris and Basel-Zurich will continue as normal, although extra stops in France are scheduled for two trains on Thursday.

Work on upgrading track is also causing ongoing delays on Lyria trains to and from Paris.

Meanwhile, France’s civil aviation authority has asked all airlines to cut Paris flights by up to half on Thursday.

The strike action is the result of a campaign by unions to mobilize workers against French government plans to raise the retirement age.
