Check out the English-language bookshops in Bern.  They have a wide selection of books, in English,  on Switzerland, its history, culture, famous residents, etc., etc.

Hi Jawad, the book suggested by Richard is "Histoire Suisse" by Grégoire Nappey.  It is a nice book, very suggested reading as well as the other books of the same type.  There is an English translation published.

"Why Switzerland?" by Jonathan Steinberg, ISBN 0521484537. Hands down the best (political) history of Switzerland I've come across so far.

I very much enjoyed "Swiss watching" by Diccon Bewes, it covers not only history of Switzerland but also also gives an insight into why Switzerland and the Swiss are as they are today, full of facts and a fairly analytical but also lighthearted and easy to read.
