THANKYOU....
For all of you who don't know me, i apologise in advance for what might seem a totally random post.

For those of you that do know me, this is probably going to be another one of my "deep posts" so, sorry, you're just gonna have to deal with it.

Let me try and put things into perspective.

It's 9.23am on a sunday morning and i've just walked into my apartment after what could possibly be one of the most amazing nights/mornings that i've had in the seven months that i've lived in Geneva. (oh, and yes before you start wondering, strangely enough i'm sober).

Without going into too much detail, a whole bunch of GOL members(you know who you are)and non GOL members got together to celebrate the birthdays of Ulli (Mr. Sark) and me.

When you have a venue full of people that have come especially to help you celebrate you getting that tad bit older, people from a myriad of nationalities, ages, cultures and creeds, people that really mingle and connect, people that go out of their way to socialise and automatically make other people feel welcome, well then that's what i call a dream come true.

Some of the "early" members might recall a post i wrote called "Home is where u make it?" (11 Oct 2005) where i asked you guys if you thought that you believe we needed a ‘home’ in our life? If it was really that important? And if so, would this be a home in a location or a mental home?

Well, all i can say is that last night finally confirmed to me that Geneva really does feel like home for me and the real reason behind this isn't the lake, the jet d'eau, la vielle ville, having drinks outside of la clemence on a hot summer's night or in Demi Lune on a gloomy winter's night.

It doesn't feel like home because i only managed to find an apartment that i love after 4 months of serious hunting, or because you can't get decent food after midnight, or because it's close to impossible to find parking in eaux vives etc, etc.

But...

It does feel like home because of you..yes, you, reading right now.

See, the thing is..., just because you're reading this it means that you have the GOL spirit in you, some of you have more of it than others but it's still within you; It's because of people like you and the people that turned up to celebrate last nght for Ulli and I that are slowly changing the life of everyday Geneva.

Since this website was set up all i have done is meet so many cool, interesting, intelligent, cosmopolitan people, which is incredibly refreshing for a swiss city.

So, i guess all im trying to say is....thank you, thanks to all of you who i have met through this site and for those of you that i haven't met...see u at the 2000 member party.

I'm honoured to live in a city where i have been lucky enough to make true friends, people that care both in good and bad times, people that strangely enough, put their friends before themselves and people who know how to party like rock stars.

Most important of all...

I'm honoured to have come across Nir, Oded (SiteAdmin) and Iolly and their revolutionary spirit that has made Geneva into the cool place that it is today and for making this site into a great success.

Thank you for helping me find my home.

Re: THANKYOU....
Post 1
You guys organized a great party, and you know we all love having something to celebrate.

When I first decided to move to Geneva I was a little apprehensive, it was different than all the other cities I have lived in. Honestly, it was thanks to GOL and more specifically YOU, that I felt at home in one weekend.

It was great to see so many familiar faces last night, and so many new ones.

You post really says it all!

and giving us a special reason to celebrate! I knew the post was yours from the title :)
Well said, and ... well Thanks for sharing it with us and making us GOL people and friends that were at the party yesterday SO welcome.
It's always great gather all togheter to celebrate a friend or 2 like in this case, but when is the GOL crowd that gather togheter, the night is bound to be fantastic. Not only for the drinks and the party but because of the people u are partying and drinking with. The Sip have never been nicer/warmer/crazier then yesterday with you guys! and Geneva has never been nicer/warmer/funnier ... and feeling like home, knowing that whatever happen even when it's a rainy day in March u have friends there with u!!!
So thanks to Mr.Sark (and a personal thanks for the CD - I just watched it - I LOVE IT!) and Luce for iniviting us.
WE LOVE U GUYS

Val - if this post doesn't make too much sense it's because... I just woke up!!

...makes all the hard work on GOL be worth while.

Knowing that we could touch the lives of so many people and make their everyday life (and our own!) better, even by just a bit, is a real privilege.

THANK YOU Luca, and the other super active community members, for bringining the friendly GOL spirit alive.

I left too early YET AGAIN… Arrghh!

The heart needs food… being the tricky little organ that it is, it is never satisfied with just finding love, or just having a great job, or just knowing someone whom you can hug very tightly and feel the “soulagement”. It hunts for an elusive balance between all of the above – and, having found it, is maybe ready to lose one of the formers, but never the later. Being surrounded by those who care is being at home, oh yes. Luca and precious people whom I have come to know in the past 2,5 months – accept my sincere thanks for making me feel the warmth of home.

FiFi

PS: Now, those of you who wisely stayed inside and continued to dance… you SHOULD HAVE seen Tigger and me at 3.30 am, in the middle of (I swear) the worst snowstorm I’ve seen in GVA, looking for my car and LAUGHING so bloody much that it’s a miracle we are both here today

I missed the dancing but I have to agree with Fifi that the snow storm was horrendous! I was driving home at 2am and I was very glad to make it in one piece out to Founex... But the party was great - you deserved it, you both are great guys and I am glad to be counted as one of your (many) friends!

how to forget the lovely snowstorm! IWe at 3:30ish (right before u girls) and...although we didn't loose the car ... by the time I reached my head was SO white from the snow on top of it ... not even bleach could reach the same results...
And this is March!! Nevertheless, going to the SIP and back both ways getting soaking wet from rain and storm ... have never been SO nice. even getting soaked is nicer with GOLers (and NO double meaning implied)
P.S. next time, glue me to the dance floor so I won't miss the rest of the party!!
