TV licence in France

I live in France.

I recently got myself a TV and havent put much thought to this.

The TV I have as I wish to watch DVDs, play console games and plug it into my laptop. I have no interest in French TV.

It seems that in France analogue TV still exists and as such they enforce the TV licence fee to everyone who has a screen with an antenna port, which, sadly I do have.

I have no interest in paying money for something I a have no intention of using and am offended by this TV licence idea. Its against fair trade, its like forcing you to buy some product just because you recieve it. The fact that they cannot control who can recieve the TV signal is their problem not mine.

So what should I do, I mean I still have time to put the TV back into the shop but if I get a screen instead, I wont be able to find one bigger than 27". Ideally id like to sit at 3m or a bit less.

Theoretically yes, french law says you have to pay the TV licence.

Well, theoretically.

If you don't want to pay the TV license, return it and get a monitor instead.

What is theoretical about it? What do you mean?

Well, the law is quite clear, if you have a TV set you have to pay the tax, even if you do not watch the digital TV channels available for free.

This tax is not only for TV in fact, collected funds will also be used to supporting radios.
