Hi guys,
This is really an off topic thread, kind of creepy, though I'm pretty sure I'll amuse people in here... I'm starting talking to myself. I talk loudly as though there was someone listening. I no longer think quietly to myself. I've noticed this for the last 3 weeks... I'm wondering if that's normal or I'm going crazy. I never lived on my own. When I left my parent's house, 7 years ago, I always shared apartment with someone, friends, girlfriends... but I've been living on my own for the last 6 months and I've noticed that I'm talking and thinking loudly... What worries me is that I'm answering my own questions.
I accept all kind of opinions, jokes or whatever you guys want to say.

Get a dog, he/she will be happy to listen to you talk.
Got guinea pigs already... not good listeners :-P
Get a woman. Most wont stop complaining for long enough to let you to talk to yourself. ;-)

Not looking for women... I'm just seeking advice
Go to a psychiatrist.
Once you get the bill you will soon shut up.

psychiatrist ?, never heard of it
you are definitely not going crazy.
I would say that because you are living alone for an extended period of time, you are relaxing your idea of what's 'allowed' or 'normal' (forgive me for using this word). When living with someone, speaking out loud without speaking to the person who's there is considered odd or 'abnormal'. But, since no one is there, you are free to talk without judgement.
Just as writing things down can often make thoughts clearer, I think that speaking things out loud can achieve similar results. Thoughts are too fluid, fleeting and fast. Speaking makes them more concrete - complete sentences, logical thoughts one building off the other. And the whole "I'm answering myself" thing just means that you are playing devil's advocate or really working through something that's on your mind.
I would say it's nothing to worry about. But, thanks for sharing.

Try singing, and your neighbors will definitely tell you to shut up.
Try talking under water in the bath tub - you may just drown.
Are you also talking to the great white bowl . . . in which case, just chunder and hope the lid drops and knocks you out.
Best idea would be to get a parrot, he'll repeat everything you say and soon enough you'll realise how stupid you sound.
Move back home, your parents will move out and you can have the place to yourself. Back to square one, just at home. Throw a Glocals party and trash the place.

It's absolutely 'normal', and even very healthy like Zonker mentioned. Helps clearing your mind. The best thing is you can control the entire conversation yourself! ;-) Talking to yourself, per se, will not make you go crazy, it will rather help preventing you from becoming crazy.
Most pets are useless listeners. Dogs are maybe ok, at least they give you the impression of listening and actually being interested in what you're saying. I have a cat, he's absolutely useless in this sense. When I try to talk to him, he just looks at me with this fantastic arrogant face probably thinking: "do I look like a give a flying fuck... are you gonna give some fresh meet or what?!"

I actually wanted to thank Zonker, but the "thank poster" "button so to say, does not work for me since I while ago.
But not to get off the topic, I agree with Zonker. There is nothing wrong in talking to yourself. And I say that with full individual (as someone who has been doing it since I have known myself - I am an only child) and professional (medical) responsibility.
Indeed, things seem clearer, even more objective when I pronounce them, explain them to myself out loud.
Since you started doing it recently, it is obviously a change for you, but not neccessarily a bad one. Keep talking!
And - in my experience, talking to yourself can be complemented, but not replaced by talking to others :)

As Zonker said, plus, until you start genuinely having a conversation with yourself, just roll with it! If you find yourself actually conversing (somewhat like Smeagle in LOTR)...then you have trouble...or you've had the ring at some point and are feeling lost without it.
Apologies for the somewhat nerdy post...ahem.

If you're alone, then I don't see anything wrong with it, although I prefer the term, "thinking aloud". Also it's a surefire way to ensure intelligent conversation!
Just don't let it get to the stage of Travis Bickle.
Have a good one.

I think "thinking aloud" is the best description, sometimes it seems to clarify things, which internally were a little hazy, it's a rationalising process...or we're all mental, either way, I won't be stopping!
If it does get really bad, at least I'll never be bored, there will ALWAYS be someone to banter with. X)
You idiot Chris, you now sound mental.

Thanks guys for the comments... I feel a bit relieved now that I know I'm not going insane :-P
By the way, I love that scene in Taxi Driver - You Talkin' me ... I've done that sometime in front of the mirror ;-)

If we're being honest then I think most men have!
Living on your own when you've always been with people must be a tough transition. But good for you for throwing yourself out of your usual routine. It's important to do things like that and it isn't easy.
I would say speaking outloud is a way to adapt to the silence you aren't used to. Part of me wonders if it will even continue after you take another little while to fully adjust to being on your own. I would say it's a subconscious coping mechanism. I do it when I'm on my own a bit without realising it... and then worry if I am beginning my trip into paranoid schizophrenia. But really, it is far from uncommon. I think you're ok.
Although... you do seem to be a full-grown man with a guinea pig.. so who knows...

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal ... I tell jokes to myself (loudly) and I laugh also to them (very loudly) ...

Don't worry you're probably just like me: as I tell my children I like talking to interesting people!
And I get no lip!
