Taxes & Fees When Shipping from UK to France?

Hello glocals,

Anybody out there able to help me with the below?

1. If I order a product from the UK and have it shipped to france - will I need to pay any taxes / fees when receiving the product?

2. If I order a product from the UK and have is shipped to Geneva - will I only need to pay the 8% VAT when receiving the product or are there additional fees?

Thanks a lot and happy holidays,

Oded

Normally if you send it to France there won't be any taxes or fees (assuming you don't declare it at the border when coming back into CH)

Ordering from anywhere outside of CH to CH can be a bit tricky as for most things you're at the mercy of customs and they don't always have rhyme or reason. I've had packages with new items worth over a few hundred CHF slip through without customs (from both U.K. and U.S) but then have been tagged for close to 100 chf for used items with practically no value. Just yesterday I had a new item arrive from the U.S. with a value of 65 USD and paid a duty of 25chf.

As Mathew says, the Swiss customs seem to take arbitrary decisions.

I was once being stung for a sizeable amount on a tartan hostess skirt I had left with its tailor in East Kilbride for him to adjust the “apron”, renew the leather straps, etc.

I spent nearly an hour trying to convince the morons

at the main post office that tartan is near indestructible and that was why the skirt looked “brand new” even though it was more than 10 years old so I no longer had the receipt.

I eventually beat them down to a paltry 50 francs but vowed that it would be cheaper and more fun to go easyjet and collect goods from a UK supplier personally than have my own property shipped to CH.

So my advice is stay clear of having any goods sent to CH if you can.
