Telemarketers, blocking, your privacy

So I have an unlisted IDSN 3 line residence phone number.

However since the summer 2015 I am receiving 3-4 phone calls per day. These are automated and automatic machine calls. And once I answered, I started getting many calls from Inusrance brokers, insurance companies, telemarkter for magazines, etc. They then find what time your home and share this with their partners or sell lists, so they can harass you, over and over. And strange I am have received 13 telemarketing calls also on my mobile. So I assume/guess is that I endered some contest, Expo exibitor registration, or other. They then have shared my information to these types of companies, and I totally regret. As I use my home and mobile for both personal & BUSINESS.

Normally phone lines are either Analog, IDSN, or IP digital. IP Digital you can block up to about 50numbers, the others, very difficult. Now im no expert, so talk to your land line or mobile providers, but on my mobile I can block numbers very easily.

I was really not aware of these types of calls and also assumed that in Switzerland that if companies call over n over (considered harrasement), its an offence and can be reported. It is an offence, but the procedure is very complicated. Also if you every get any calls that you can identify and they are in anyway threatening, then report to the police.

I have now amased a list of phone numbers that are telemarketing:

032 580 0413

041 588 0496

041 588 0783

043 508 6266

043 508 6403

052 508 7263

058 100 0860

058 100 0871

058 577 1277

061 388 3961

062 588 0308

062 588 0360

071 588 0380

As you see, there is a sort of a patern, you will soon recognize them, never every answer or accept, or you will get call after call.

I done a bit research and here are a few helful sites, but if in question, contact your phone carrier.

DONT BE A VICTIM/HARRASSED by THESE SCAMERS (scum) AND POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES.

We have just this moment put down our telephone from one such call. You are not alone, as we live in France and are pestered thus on a daily basis, often at mealtimes by these nuisance calls.

My OH read on a website that the thing to do is to pick up the receiver, and immediately push the ##### button several times in quick succession [lower right hand corner]. Apparently this confuses the computer which automatically dials the numbers and means you should not be bothered thereafter.

Would like to think that it really works, but our calls have definitely become fewer.

You can buy from FRC a device that blocks incoming telemarketer calls, it's called KATIA: http://www.frc.ch/articles/texte-yoocos/

Have also a look at Stopting.ch, they maintain a blacklist of calling numbers so you can know whether the person that called you is a ball-buster: http://stopting.ch

What I'm doing for months now is that I no longer pickup the phone when the incoming call is not a number from my phone contact list. Then, I check on the internet and/or local.ch, and if it appears to be a telemarketer/terror phone number, I enter it in my phone as an unwanted call.

Also, had to turn-off my answering machine, as for automated calls it's understood as an answer, and they call again.

Number of calls have reduced.

At the beginning, when I was still answering the phone, I was trying to be nice. But now, just for the pleasure to be extremely meeeeean, I sometimes pick-up  unwanted call and say terrrrrrrrrrrible things to the guy-whose-job-is-to-piss-me-off-and-for-whom-I-no-longer-have-understanding ;)

From your link, it seems that KATIA is no longer available.

I know this is an old post. However, rather than begin a new one, I was wondering if anyone else has seen an increase in the amount of Robo-Telemarketing calls. Specifically, within the past couple months. I'm seeing 3 to 5 a day, that according to caller ID, are coming from all over Europe and as far south as India.

I run a 24 hour customer support organization with global clients. So, not answering the phone isn't an option. While I block every telemarketer call that comes through to my mobile, it's still not making much of deterrence on the amount of calls received.

Anyone have a fix, or thoughts that might be worth sharing?

Thanks - KEN

I'm posting an update as I just noticed that the annuaire téléphonique inversé local.ch (reverse phonebook) now tells you if the unknown number is a telemarketer and, even better, allows you to file a complaint to the SECO (the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs).

The complaint, I guess, is only applicable against telemarketers calling from Swiss numbers. Very useful anyway, as there's a flood of spam calls from medical insurance companies.

Even though this is an old thread but I just found out the French government is offering a service to block such calls. It is called Bloctel.

If you live in France, go to "www.bloctel.gouv.fr " to enroll.
