Sorry Folks,
but I need to vent it out somewhere, and since I can't really put down all my fellow corporate slave at work with me ... it;s out here for everyone to enjoy :)
(and yeah I admit it ... I am fishing for some 'empathy').
So here's the thread.. let's gather all the corporate slaves and shares our wrose day ever Fiscal Year TO date.
Today is mine.
Today was just another normal day in the life of a corporate slave. Was working late hs yesterday (finished my last meeting at 7:30 pm - 8ish) and I was planning to go home, grab dinner on the way and watch some tv. Cause a really hard day was ahead of me. And indeed ... I grab some dinner, started watching tv, and around midnight my throat decided to turn nasty against me and in the middle of the night my temperature decided to be even meaner. Of course the model corporate slave has meetings booked from 8:30 am till 7pm again, and is in the office despite the body complaining (yeah the red thingee walking in the corridors all covered up is me indeed ). And after that of course some other emergency came up and some modification requried so I will have 3 days worth of work to catch up before a deadline on thursday morning. SO long hs required as well ... and hopefully a drink with some friends after to kill the cold with some alchool (or at least pass out so not to feel the sore throat) ... unless my body really decides agree to disagree with me and not even my favourite knight in a shining armour (Mr. Paracetamol) can convince him of the opposite.
Any one that has hints on negotiation techiniques with ur body? Or how to make urself less indispensible? or how to convince ur body tha those 3 days when you need to be in the office He can't can't can't let you down??
Any other horror corporate slave story? come on share please and let me feel at least more normal ;)

After more than 25 Years in various corporate roles, I can empathise but I will give you my view.. It's never worth killing yourself working for someone else, it's never really rewarded and it soon is accepted as normal. I always share my knowledge so that I can take holidays and find good staff. And every deadline is always moveable , so many times have I busted a gut to finish and the meeting is cancelled. If you are ill .. GO HOME .. either they will realise how much they need you or you have such an effective support staff that the work is done anyway.

You poor thing, I seriously empathize. When it is absolutely indispensable that I have to go work and I have the head ache, sore throat and al going on. I put on the humidifier- I add these capsules that you can buy at the pharmacy which contain eucalyptus and camphor and make my room a mini ham am. This at least ensures that I get good nights sleep and that I am not so stuffed in the morning. In the morning I either take panadol with vitamin c or the new anti grippine. They kind of suppress all your symptoms (not sure this is great but I really need to get to work) but unlike the other flu medicines, they don’t make you sleepy..otherwise, you can try an old swiss (valaisan, I believe) method which consist of keeping a peeled onion on a saucer next to your bed and keeping it there all night…personally, I have never used this method, so I would not be able to tell you if it works

Best advice I've had in years. If you gotta runny nose and nasty humours wrecking havoc in your body sleep with your face down since this will stop these said nasty liquids running down your throat all night long infecting it even more. Not had a sore throat since.
Good luck with future illnesses.

Taking pretuval for 3-4 days, really helps, and for my sore throat there are these pastilles you can get from the chemist called 'Euphon N' they are awesome I have a job where I need to speak alot, once I lost my voice, after a day of sucking on these pastilles my voice came back and I was able to carry on with my job.
Had a nasty cold 2 days ago, three days with Pretuval and Euphon N and I was right as rain.
