I will be entertaining out of town guests for a few days next week - so I need to come up with some exciting plans! What is everyone's favorite things to do in and around Geneva and Lausanne? To put it another way, if you only had 3 days in town what things would you 'need' to see?
Thanks for any input!

Ivoire is nearby Evian. It's a very pretty town by the lake leman. If you have enough time, don't forget to drop by Ivoire. You will love it.

I was in Yvoire this summer and I loved it! It is a quaint medieval town with lots of cute shops and restaurants. But I was there last Saturday with my mom who was in town and only 3 shops and one reastraunt were open... the whole town was quiet and seemed to be shut down for the winter.
The other place I take out of towners is Annecy. I haven't been there since October, so I'm not sure how active it is in the winter, but it's a great town.

Hi there,
I am tempted to say there is NOTHING to do but that's not entirely true. We just had guest from NZ staying for five days and this is what they did (although most of it wasn't really IN Lausanne as such):
1. Took boat to Evian and back
2. Walked around Lausanne old town, Ouchy and visited Olympic Museum
3. We took them to a Caveau in Lausanne for a few drinks of local wine and then on to Port de Pully for dinner (better for lunch i think)
4. They took the train to Gruyeres
5. They also took the train to see Bern
6. There is also a Swiss fondue place called Swiss Chalet I think, behind the church in Lausanne, with great views.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
Cheers

You know Lausanne is pretty steep it has many layers. Are you willing to show Swiss cultural stuff during the day or underground stuff all night long... or both ?
Not that I have that many ideas, it is just to better understand who is visiting you and what you want to share with them.
Cheers,
B.

Hi B,
It is my brother and his girlfriend who are visiting. I will have to work doing the day (so I will lend them my car and GPS and send them off) but during the evenings I am looking forward to showing them the nightlife in all its shapes and forms. We're between the ages of 25-29.
Thanks for any ideas!

Not much happening in Lausanne in january, people are skiiing.. But the classics include:
- Uptown Bleu L?zard and Java accross the street
- the Flon area with bars like Louis, Luna and the main clubs D!, Mad
- Restaurant La Suite
- Daytime: the world best chocolates at Blondel on rue de Bourg
- For summer Zapoff beach bar
- For mountain nightlife/bars go to Verbier in Valais
At this season, you have to spend one day in the mountains. Suggestion:
Lausanne - Diablerets (50min), don't miss the Laiterie for great cheese, as an option t?l?ph?rique to the Glacier. Diablerets - Gstaad (25min), Gstaad - Chateau d'Oex (20min) and back to Lausanne (1 hr).
Another must: motorway exit at Chexbres (between Lausanne and Vevey), drive down the vineyard for an amazing view (route de la Corniche) - in the summer stop at Baron Tavernier terrasse but reserve first - then drive through Vevey (you can stop at Dix Vins wine bar for wine/tapas and in the summer at National terrasse), from Vevey back on the motorway...

I've been living here for almost 3 years and have not thought of the last 2 suggestions - I'll have to try those in the summer.
Thanks!
