Hey,

Has anybody done the Tour Du Lac Leman in previous years? How hard is it?

It really depends on your expectations and on how fit/trained you are. it is long if you want to do the full tour, but surely not difficult - although wind could make things harder.

enjoy if you end up registering!

6 to 10 hrs of excruciating ass pain if the weather is bad and depending on your average speed.

Would advise against doing it alone, better with someone your own standard, in case of accidents and punctures.

You can do the "demi" which is Lausanne Geneva, but at a higher average speed Im told.

If youre in a peloton make sure you know the ettiquette, and Id also advise to have done the route before hand if youre competative.

As above, fluids and energy foods.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Would you say its possible to do for the recreational cyclist? I haven't attempted any long routes before.

Has anybody here completed it after never doing long distance before?

There are/were a group of guys who do it every sunday esp in the summer, that was a while back. It has been done on mountain bikes etc... but takes closer to the 10 hours to complete incl stops for lunch and tea etc. Its only 175km ... :))))

I have a buddy who does it every week as well, competatively though, trying to beat the 6 hr mark ...as race training. and its from him that I got the advice given above.

Thanks for the replies Charlie, and everyone. That gives me some idea of what I'm letting myself in for.

Just to add a final line to Charlie's post's - a couple of years back it was soooooo freeezing, that 100's stopped due to the cold and "la bise".

Done it twice myself, the first time was a super "struggle", due not having done enough training, the second time was so much better. Cool

And if you plan to start in Lausanne, make sure that you get there well before time....it does get busy.

Happy pedaling.

I'm signed up for it -- in a moment of madness.. And I doubt that I'm trained enough. I normally do 60-80kms at around 25km/h .. But doubt i would/could maintain that speed all the way. My problem is that my ass and arms get sore! Legs are normally fine.

But hey . I'll decide at the time if I'm gonna do it or not. There's the one in May and another smaller event in June.

If you fancy a few practice rides I'm out near to Nyon..

I should rephrase... my buddy is trying to beat the 5 hr mark.... last official time was 5hrs 02 min.

The website Cyclotour will give you and idea of previous times and average speeds, obviously the leading pelotons look for 4hrs something.
