I just arrived in Geneva a couple days ago, and echo Cwillam's sentiment about wanting to find a group of trail runners.

Hello,
I see you wrote this ad a long time ago, but I'm a running enthusiast! I try to run regularly, usually around the trails behind le Lignon (not really familiar with other trails). Do you run with a group? I'm pretty new to Geneva and would like to join a club or even just a group of runners to motivate me.
Hope to hear back from you soon!
Judith

We differ from swiss' group in that we drink as well - even during the run. The big advantage is that the run is in a different locaton each time and you really ger to know the whole of the Geneva canton over a couple of years

Could you tell me more about the Geneva Runners club? When/where do you meet? What types of work-outs do you do?
Thanks for your reply!

Although addressed to the Geneva Runners group will still throw in my two pence worth,. I think both groups run about the same distance 8 - 12 km inour case. Hash House Harriers is a premarked trail where the faster runners have to find the trail and by the time they find it the slower runners and walkers should have caught up. The location is different each week and we keep away from traffic. HHH groups are to be found in every country in the world (there are 7 or 8 in Switzerland)

Hi Judith,
As for the Geneva Runners; who we are: A group of expats and locals of all ages with a running problem.
To us : We are runners of all abilities, (we have guys which run marthons every week, we have a few triathlon guys, even an Ironman) even those who literally only walk.
We meet every Mon & Wed @ 7pm in front of Bains des Paquis, (which is on Quai Wilson), we meet also on Saturdays @ 10am.
Do join us on Fb, all our social events & races posted there ;-)

Hi Swiss, thanks for your reply.
I'm interested in joining your group. I'm not on facebook so I'll have to bother you with more questions...(unless you have a website?:) You mentioned you have runners of all abilities, do you do speed/tempo workouts or mainly long runs? What kinds of paces do you run at?
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Paul.
I'm looking for a group that runs more intensively. The food/drink sounds great but it's already my problem to begin with :)
Thanks anyway and best of luck!

Judith,
We do all kind of runs, Mon & Wed it's anything between 9 and 12km. Saturdays is anything between 10 to 21, even 30km) Some go for speed, always depending who is actually out for running. Sometimes we run & excercise, really variable.
(as for our website, we are in the middle of having a new one done, keep you posted)
As for paste, again variable, as you have seen from my previous posts, we have all kind of runners, the super fast, the fast, the medium runners, the slower ones, the beginners to running... come out and find out for yourself.
See you around.

Hey davide!
I also need a running partner for motivation! Was thinking of joining Hash House Harriers because they seem serious about running, and beer...like myself!
What distance/speed do you run? Im a little out of shape at the moment but i like to run any distance 5k plus... My equillibrium i think is 10k in 40mins lol

Easiest way to navigate is go to http://www.genevahhh.com/ and then hit calendar. For each Monday and Wednesday there is a location for the run. For next Mopnday for instance there is no run posted because no.one has volunteered to set one yet but it will be posted latest Monday morning. Best is to sign up for the email see bottom of home page and then the locaton of Monday and wednesday runs is sent to younormally a couple of days beforehand. This does not commit you turn up but is a lot simpler than navigating the web.
The instructions usually include a map of the location and instructions for bus and car. first run is free thereafter CHF 5 francs to cover costs of beer and nibbles during(optional) and after (mandatory) the run. Afterwards there is an option to go for a meal usually costing CHF 25 wine included.
The trail is preset by the 'hare' with false trails check backs or no marks for a while which allows the faster runners to excercise while looking for the^way on by which time the sloweer runners catch up. There is a walkers trial which follows the same route but with short cuts.
The idea is based on a paper-chase and you can find the history somewhere on the website

We run 8-10k but assume an hour while waiting for slower people If you are at the front looking for the trail you could do a bit more. Suggest you try it. You will love it or hate it. The advantage is that you can run hashes anywhere so last two time I was in Cairo I stayed an extra day and ended up in fantastic locations in the desert just 30 minutes outside of airo. Same in Taipei (but n jungle)

See you all on Saturday!
