I'm sure I'm not the only one, who has come across the elderly women, stading around town by the tram-ticket machines.. They offer to buy the ticket for you, with their card and you then give them your coins that you were supposed to buy the ticket with... The thing is that they block the machine with a small coin or with using their card, so when you go up to the machine it doesn't work.. Then she is so nice to offer her help, to make it work again, and in return you give her the money and let her buy your ticket!
She then buys a ticket with the reduced price you can get, if you have the card that gives you cheap tickets all over Switzerland.. the problem is that if you haven't got that card and get stopped with a ticket she bought, you have a problem!
She doesn't earn a lot on this scam, but I just wonder where she got 10 of the 50chf cards from?!
Call me narrow-minded, but I'm getting a bit tired of all these different scams.. and just want to let everybody else know, that it's probably not the best idea to support a scam like this, even if it is the old ''helpful'' woman!

Well at least not the time they wanted to by me a ticket...
The basic idea is that they buy a card for 20 CHF, which gives you the right to buy tickets for 21 CHF, plus that you can byu a 3CHF ticket even if there is only 10 cents left on the card. Hence that already earns them approx. 2 CHF per card or so. Plus that as said earlier, they will get an additional card of 20 CHF when bringing back cards worth the total amount of 200 CHF. Hence, if you stand there the whole day you do make some money... better than begging if you ask me.
Now each person has the choice, either you give them the money for the ticket that you want, and if you do not have the "demi-tariff" card which gives you a discount on your ticket, well then you just hand over 3 CHF and make sure that the lady or man buys you a ticket for 3 CHF (the idea is not that they make money from you, but from the TPG - and the latter gains on the fact that the machines are not full of coins and hence less interesting for break in...). Or you tell them 'non merci' and buy your own ticket.
One might cal it a scam against the TPG, but then i think that it would have been made illegal. But it is not a scam, according to my experience, to the 'client' as you do not loose anything giving your money to them rather than to the machine and still getting a bus ticket out of it...
my 2 cents

I noticed this last night at Cornavin.. there was a man standing by the machine at Cornavin tram stop, and I was using my UBS cash card part to buy the tickets (2), immediately after I got the tickets and went off, he started putting a carte bonus card in, pressing a few buttons and did this twice... I was stressing as I thought he may have managed to wipe my credit from the cash card, but it seems to be the same..

... if a woman really needs to stand a whole day in the cold, to earn a few CHF by doing this little - let's call it 'trick' - then how could she affort those 10, 50CHF cards in the first place?
Something about this whole thing seems a bit fishy to me...
And she does actually cheat you for some money aswell, if you are not really aware.. as she buys a demi tarif ticket, worth 2.20chf and you hand her over 3chf, thinking that that was what it costed... and then you have the trouble if you get stopped, without the demi tarif.
