UPS & internet purchases from the US
What experiences have people had ordering from the US through the internet? (clothing, shoes, etc) I'm aware of duties and taxes and have paid with purchases coming through the post. I'm less certain about packages arriving courrier/UPS. I've heard say that they add on their own additional charges. Can anyone comment? And if true, what are the charges, cost wise?

thanks much,

Tracy

Hi Tracy,

I often order from the US, usually books from Amazon (I'm a writer), but I try to avoid having things UPSed (I call it Oops!) as it does add a lot of extra charge. I recently had an X-box came delivered for my son, it came UPS and I had to pay an extra SFrs 26 frs... The bill came a few days after the delivery...

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Tracy,

I have recently come across the name of a company offering some sort of a "remote" mailbox service that might be of use if you purchase regularly from the USA or UK. The company is called Aramex, but there might be others on the market with similar offerings, I have not researched this any further.

Here is their page: http://www.aramex.com/shopandship/what_is_shopandship.aspx

Cheers

Normally the Swiss VAT is added (7.6%) and if applicable Customs Duties (depending on the product). I think UPS etc are obliged to pay this when they ship the products to CH and pay the taxes etc. They than charge it on to you.
