Unemployed FrontAlier

Hi all,

I was working for more than two years in Geneva and now quite sudden my contract was not extended any more. As in such cases the unemployment insurance pays I registered at the French Unemployment Agency "Pole Emploi" and had a chat with an advisor there. He told me that as Im using the Swiss lamal I have to move to the French System first before receiving any benefits. I checked on the website of the French Social Security AMECI.fr. but did not found any useful information about how to get a French Social Security Number. I only found the Formulare 726 which is meant to choose between Lamal and French Social Security. This however requires a valid working contract.

Im stuck at this point know and Im wondering if you have any tipps/advises/help for me.

As I already found a job in Zuerich which starts in July, I m also wondering if the off time is ´long´enough to be eligible for any unemployment benefits.

Many thnx in advance

You are entitled to benefits indeed but it will take a lot of time to register to French Social Security...to then unlock your unemployment benefits...up to you if you think you are patient engouh to deal with all this admin process especially moving to Zurich later on....Good luck !!!

Hi Hananw

thnx for your message. At Pole Emploi I was told that I will receive a sort of preliminary social security number right when I register there and I can use this number at the beginning.
