Unfolding the UN hiring practices

Dear Glocalians,

I am wondering if there is any United Nations-wide legal document on hiring practices / procedures? Particularly, I'd like to know if there's any way to make an HR office to be more talkative, transparent and friendlier to explain why they give preference to a less-qualified person when hiring? Besides, is there any legal document to which I may refer myself to know my rights, if any at all?

Thanks in advance,

A.

Hello. Yes, there is a UN recruitment policy. What do you mean your rights-- are you already a staff member? Because there is also a document on staff rights and duties.

I presume that you refer to hiring procedures concerning contracted regular staff and not consultancies or field missions. Yes, the whole hiring process is ridgidly framed by Un legal documentation. All non-confidential documentation is available for studies at the UNOG library to visitors. Should be available on www.un.org also.

Hehe, UN has a kind of ridiculous recruiting system, it matters a lot as about who you know, not who you are!
