Any tips on local vegan restaurants?
Looks like they're inexistant. Only found one spot that's vegan (Helveg) and a vegetarian (Vert Attitude).
Anything else?

L'Epicentre in Plainpalais do an amazing discovery menu and have made it fully vegan previously on request. Arguably it was even more impressive than the omnivore version

Thanks!
It's pricey though (like Helveg)
I'm glad there are options in Lausanne too. Is this place the only one in Lausanne or are there more?

Wait... just checked be oh, it's not a vegan restaurant, they serve meat. Please delete your comment, let's keep this strictly vegan. Thanks.

In Geneva there is also Mu-Food open only for lunch, 100% vegan, bio and local ingredients. Check for places on www.veganwall.com

Cheers,
Thank you. I know Mu-Food. Not vegan. They do meat and fish.
They have vegan options though.
Again, looking for vegan spots.
It's kinda depressing how unprogressive Switzerland is...
There's some form of vegetarian-friendly spots, but 100% cruelty-free is rare.

the only other vegan resto is Aux Deux Portes by the Potterie stop of the 14 tram, Rue Schaub 3. They do only lunches, (arrive at 12 to ensure you have place and food :) ) though there have been some experimental openings on weekends, you may want to check. The best source for up to date info on vegan restos is www.happycow.net . Please join the Glocals Geneva vegan group http://www.glocals.com/groups/geneva-vegetarian-and-vegan-group.htm for vegan events. Currently in the framework of World Vegan Month there are many vegan events in Romandie. As for Lausanne, yes, there is a fantastic new resto there and also there are monthly vegan brunches organized by VEganopolis. https://www.facebook.com/veganopolis.org/. Feel free to pm me if you have further questions :).

Thanks! I know aux 2 portes.
I did not put them in the restaurant category as it's more like a shop.
Their food is amazing, they should definitely open a 7/7 restaurant :)

Nice, really vegan?

I am really happy about the useful tips here, and even more delighted to see lausanne/geneva slowly catching up on a more conscious lifestyle with organic/vegetarian/vegan shops and restos. However, i find it a little limiting and unrealistic to insist on "purely strictly vegan only and nothing else because that's the only way to go" - i feel this is just simply not helping the cause. This region is small, we are not in Berlin or New York, and things take time. In the meantime, it's great to see places such as "Mon Jardin secret" in Lausanne that try to cater to a gluten-free and/or vegetarian diet with organic ingredients as best as they can (and successfully so - they seem to be commercially viable, which is crucial, right?). All this is a good start that helps to get veganism out of its niche, and to raise interest and awareness.
So, thank you for ALL the info here - please keep it coming!

I would agree that it is a good thing to ask for vegan options wherever you go and that if your friends are going to a non-vegan resto, you will find the options that suit you. . www.happycow.net is a great site to find out local options wherever you travel. However, I think it is very important to support fully vegan businesses. Owners of these start-ups take on a huge risk, often investing all their lifesavings in these little businesses to fulfill their dream of living the compassionate life they feel dedicated to. Their competition is uneven, really, so showing your extra support means a lot for their survival. And then again, when you are vegan, you feel so much better not having to worry about "mix-ups" which we have seen sooo many times, when you end up with just a bit of cheese, just a bit of meat, just a bit of yogourt in your dish. Finally, it feels good to support a vegan business and to know that your money will go towards compassionate products and services.

bad news: if you are not a glocals admin, you cannot delete someone else's posts. As long as they don't post offensive/insulting content, people can express whatever they like in a public forum. Outrageous, i know.... ;-)

The thing with vegan-friendly spots is this : when you're vegan for ethical reasons, you don't want mix-ups, like, the guys in the kitchen cooking meat and using the same utensils for cooking vegan food. Or the asian spot using fish sauce to make your food because they don't know fish is an animal etc.

I totally see your point. I DID switch to a vegan diet, for ethical reasons. Thing is, i also have a cat. He's not vegan, obviously. So yes, i should probably confess to the vegan police that i have chicken liver in my fridge right now.
So this is all very interesting.
But jokes aside.
Personally, i am not so interested in confining vegans to a niche movement. I would like to see vegan go mainstream - to be present as an easy option for everyone in everyday life. It is unlikely that the majority of the population will stop eating meat any time soon. But we can work to lower the meat consumption and change the terrible suffering caused by the meat industry (through pricing, strict standards, campaigning, etc). For that to happen, the vegan movement (or whatever it's called) needs to be cool, unfuzzy and inclusive. What better way to do that than offer super tasty vegan meals in "mixed" restaurants that can inspire the average person to skip the steak? Personally, i really don't fret about ingesting a teaspoon of fish sauce. The bigger picture is why i am chosing to go vegan.
I am still rather new to all this and could really use some support and tips. But i am honestly scared to join a community that - as it seems - will probably point fingers at me and tell me to "delete this comment".

Giselina, good for you that you started on the vegan path. There is truth in what you say, but maybe one day you will see the philosopy of veganism in another way. Maybe one day you will understand why some people embrace anti-specisism and some people feed their companion animals vegan food. (It is very easy to find nutritious and delicious healthy vegan food for cats and dogs even in Switzerland, in case you don't want to cook for them. For example here: http://www.vegusto.ch/en/kategorie-vegusto-cat-und-dog.php ) I understand that you learned at school that cats and dogs need to eat meat, but remember, you also learned at school that you need to eat meat and milk products to remain healthy too, so you may want to Google the latest research and find out why vegan cats and dogs live longer and healthier lives. Feel free to join the community or come to one of the vegan events if you would like to know more and ask questions. You are at the beginning of a beautiful, compassionate journey!

hi Gisela,
Congratulations on becoming Vegan! I suppose that the cook in restaurants needs to be educated more or change their curriculam in culinary school :-). When we ask for Vegetarian meal in Michelin star restaurant the Chef is not able to produce more than a mix Salad!!!! if you are lucky you can get steamed vegetable plate after lots of arguments with Maitre d'hotel ! TitsBits in Swiss German part is a good example of wide variety served of food under one roof only. We miss this place in our region. Your cat cant hunt in city thus she has a right to get the chicken liver bought by you. if you are in Bern you must try this restaurant http://www.tibits.ch/en/food-drink/menu-specials.html
cheers
