Volcano woes - who's affected?

Hi all,

I just wanted to see that I can't be the only one who has had to change travel plans due to a certain temperamental Icelander blowing off a bit of steam. Here's my story.

I was supposed to return to Zurich on the 19th from Beijing, but that obviously wasn't possible. My airline rebooked me for the 2nd of May! That being unacceptable, I opted for a refund and found a way back from Osaka on the 26th. It ended up costing me a lot though, I'll have to see how much my travel insurance and/or employer are willing to help me on that.

So yes, I was stuck in Beijing, and now currently in Japan. On the positive side, this is a great place to be stuck in! On the other hand, I have to try to get some remote work done, in order to appease my employer and not having extra vacation days docked.

So what's your story?

In short, I was stranded in Tokyo for 5 days, all expenses paid by B.A. (including 2 nights in the Tokyo Bay Hilton - with coupons for the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner) where I met a bunch of adorable people.

Add to this a night in a hotel in Rome (I was originally supposed to reach Geneva via London); we thought we'd have to spend the night camping in the airport, but buses came to pick us up.

I never had to open my wallet.

Except for the lack of info during the first hours of chaos in the airport, I cannot command enough B.A. (and probably to some extend, Alitalia) for the exceptional care they've given to their customers.

I'm sorry that it didn't work as well for you.

I've also heard that Air France was a joke... as usual...
