WRS: Swiss telecoms to cap foreign cell phone fees

Tuesday, 21 June, 2011, 19:35

Switzerland’s three mobile phone operators are instituting caps on fees for using web services on cell phones while abroad.

The companies faced criticism from consumer groups for high data rates and massive bills seen by some customers after vacations outside the country.

Swisscom, Sunrise and Orange now promise to send SMS warnings when a customer approaches a limit for data usage, from 100 to 300 francs.

The system will start on July 1.

A very minor step ,)   The real step would be to reduce the 41CHF charge per megabyte to something that makes sense for consumers.

41CHF/MB intl. roaming, that's Sunrise/Lebara for you. A hundredfold reduction would be in order here.
