WRS: Coop withdraws frozen lasagnas

Tuesday, 12 February, 2013, 11:50

Coop withdraws frozen lasagnas

Coop is taking its own brand frozen lasagnas off the shelves.

Some of the supermarket’s frozen meals are made by the French manufacturer Comigel.

It’s involved in a scandal in Britain, for passing horse meat off as beef.

Coop says removing its lasagna is a precaution while it tests the product.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about!

It's not like it's infected with BSC or some other virus AND you're getting more value for money as horse meat is notoriously more expensive than cow meat (spoken like a true Scot!).

So stop looking a gift horse in the mouth! Cool

No, but there are legitimate concerns over horsemeat from horses, who received BUTE - a drug, which may cause a serious blood disease in humans, which is why such horses are banned from the foodchain.. now, these horses were probably entered into the chain illegally, so were they checked? That's the question - and, of course, the deceit.

Coop confirms horse meat in lasagna

Coop, one of the country’s two largest retailers, has confirmed that a frozen lasagna it was selling contained horse meat.

The contents were confirmed by a laboratory examination commissioned by Coop as part of the European-wide investigation into horse meat being sold as beef.

The product is called Verdi Bolognese and was sold under Coop’s own brand and was produced by the French company Comigel.

Coop voluntarily pulled the lasagna off the shelves yesterday.

It's Liam Neeson time...Yell

@Nir: If your lasagnas are from Findus Switzerland, no problem: the company has nothing to do with Findus UK, although they use the same brand.  :) http://www.tdg.ch/suisse/Findus-Suisse-n-utilise-que-du-buf-suisse/story/14971988

Quite aside from the horse vs beef thing, how about all the fillers and miscellaneous chemicals?
Like this article states, the surprise is perhaps that they contain meat at all...

Isn't it time we went back to buying ingredients instead of so-called "food"?

I have to say that as an Irishman who was raised on the back of a horse I wouldnt eat horse willingly, as i wouldnt eat dog or cat.

I fear that I have eaten horse, and thanks to my local chinese probably dog and/or cat too....

I feel VIOLATED......

I need a victim support group... or more accurately a victim support perswoman to take my mind off it all...

Totally agree with Patrizia. The "meat" they use in pre-prepared food wasn't even used for cat food in the past. But thanks to "modern technology", they now manage to make it look/taste remotely like meat.

I also agree with Patrizia, but frankly I would not eat a frozen lasagna or other "prepared food"

If there is no time to prepare a proper meal, I will make a salad.
