Finally some genuine Japanese wagyu here (shop not restaurant). The real deal... for the stratospheric anticipated price... (~CHF 400 - 550/kilo for A5 quality... ouch!)

just a word about this type of beef. tried it once, never again. see all the fat (marbeling ), this means that you will have more fat and the typical "beef" taste is overwhelmed by greasy fat. worst meat i ever had. but, if you pay 550 sfr per kg, you may not want to admit that it was bad! just giving my experience. as they say, you have to live and learn.

I never tried it raw. It looks like salami? But I'm sure the taste is different!

Tried once the Kobe beef like that in a fancy restaurant in Ginza/Tokyo, but with a fondue. Indeed, very tasty. But I wil not eat them often due to the fat proportion, which is probably the reason it is tasty...

I was told that the cows lived in a large space, and were massaged regularly, drink Kirin beer and listen to the music…Smile

Christine, thanks. I checked out N'vY and they have Wagyu main meal at CHF 98- but is

Boeuf Wagyu : Australie, Chili, Espagne

I will go try at Tribly / N'vY

again thanks.

Jimmy,
I think your right, because of the fat its could be very tasty depending how they prepare it, im not sure I want to eat Wagyu it as sashimi, cooked versus cold marbled fat/meat is just not not the same.

Sorry to be a spoil sport but....actually it is 100% impossible to get proper wagyu outside of Japan.

Alas when I was in Kobe and Matsuaka I was much too poor to spend big money on such a fancy food :(

Craig, while it seems indeed that the genuine deal is scarce, you can actually find some in Europe. See this (in German, but there are links to Japanese papers - a language you seem to master).

Extract:
