War on Christmas: First Casualty -- Santa
Naughty Boy Throws Pie at Santa

By Gazette News Services

MISSOULA, Montana - Missoula police are looking for a teenager who hit Santa Claus in the face with a frozen pie at Southgate Mall.

Witnesses said the boy ran up to the mall's winterland kiosk and yelled "This is for you, Santa," then either hurled or shoved the pie in his face.

"Santa almost certainly added one Missoula kid to his naughty list last night," said Tim Winger, general manager of Southgate Mall. Santa was not injured.

According to witnesses, the assailant looked about 15 years old, had dark curly hair and was dressed entirely in black.

The assault happened at approximately 7 p.m., while Santa had a child sitting on his lap, Sgt. Travis Welsh said. Winger said Santa was back at work Thursday morning.

"This is a pretty unique situation for us, because we've never had anything like this happen to Santa," Winger said. "Santa certainly falls under the priority list for creating a safe environment and unfortunately this happened."

Welsh said police have several leads in the case but have not identified a suspect. (Nov. 30)
