Weather

Hi everyone,

I will be in Geneva this summer form June to August and I'm curious as to what the weather is like in Geneva for those months. I understand that for the summer the average high is in the mid to high 80's. However, I'm curious about the average low's for the evening. Does it get cooler in the evening or does the temperature remain about the same?

If anyone can throw in their thoughts or advice, that'll be great.

Thanks in advance,

Connie

Hi there,

The weather in GVA is very aleatory in the summertime (in autumn, winter, spring you can rest assured that it'll be s***) but it usually gets quite hot and humid. It's warm in the evening as well butobviously the temperature cools up a bit.

Again, it's May and it's still raining so it does not really bode well. Flip-flops and umbrella is the way to go here in the summer :)

Hope it helps.

Cheers,

Deno

Connie, you'll be fine with summer attire most of the time, but there will be an occasional nighttime cold spell that will have you reach for a light jacket or windbreaker.  I'd bring at least these two items.

You might also choose to visit places which are 6-8,000ft in elevation.  I've been on Simplon Pass in July with a 50F wind blowing at 35mph - Shorts and a t-shirt won't cut it up there.

Well it gets quite warm and I would like to recommend visiting Montreux - its about 15 - 20 minutes by train from Geneva - that is the swiss Riviera. and once in Montreux take the small train towards Caux - there is a beautiful village after Caux - just forgotten the name but will look for it and post its name. Take a walk around Caux its a nice small place.

Enjoy your holidays Smile

Now I've got it -
Rochers de Naye
So you can take a train from Montreux up to Rochers de Naye its a mountain village with a beautiful scenery and view to the Lake of Geneva - its so beautiful that I guess you would carry that with you all your life, a must see and very natural.

Dorothy,

Montreaux is 1 hour by train, not 15-20 minutes.

I suppose you meant Nyon.

Hi Marie

Well I once drove from Geneva to Montreaux and it really took me 20 minutes. No I dont mean Nyon. I used to go to Montreaux once a month passing Geneva  for more than 10 years - ok I used to drive over and it didnt take me an hour - did the trains become slower I will check the train plan. Well I checked the Timetable and it realy takes either 52 minutes or more than an hour. By car its less but when someone has holidays time doesnt count. Thanks Marie for pointing that out - I was not aware that it took that long.

You seem to miss the part where the stretch between Geneva and Montreux is not a flat salty wasteland but a nice Swiss hill side region around the lake.

Now if you had posted a pic of a standard Swiss car (read: Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche etc) yes it would make partial sense, generally though trains are the quicker transportation for those stretches, especially when one does not want any hassle with the popo.

Deflect the tail ailerons downwards a little bit, step on the pedal, and 20min would certainly be doable.. ;)
