1. you need a swiss drivers license. easy to convert on the spot at the automobile centre, costs i think 150CHF
2. Get a scooter permit or motorcycle permit, these are temporary ones. again i think it is 150CHF. Cant really buy a scooter or motocycle without one of these permits.
3. Go to mandatory classes within 6 months of the temporary permit being issued. You can still ride the streets with the L permit. There is more tutition for motorcycles think 12hrs and you then have to sit test. Scooter 125cc only need 8hrs and no test, just convert your temporary into real one.
Not sure on 50cc, think you may just be able to use drivers license and not do the classes mentioned above??
I find 125cc perfect around city, can easily park, cheap to run, powerful enought to travel a fair distance. Although a bit chilly these days.
Hope it helps.

Where do you get the Permit from? Do you have to go down to the place in Carouge in person, or can you apply via the post?
Also, can anyone recomend any classes in English / English speaking instructors?
Thanks for your help in advance!
