I see little red spiders or mites everywhere, even quite a few in my home. Does anyone know what these are? More importantly, any thoughts to share on how to control them once they're in your home?

by 'little red spiders', do you mean the tiny acarian kind? completely harmless (to you and me, i mean). never seen them inside, though. they normally reside on any kind of terrace...

Even 5 floors up!!!!I think they got an inside tip from the ants to come and join them on the terrace,and enjoy the view!!!!:w00t:
Anyone got any fool proof way to get rid of ants(without inhaling toxic fumes with sparys)?

For ants:Mix water and white vinegar together in a spray bottle, spray it around areas you see the insects, I was told they hate the smell (or whatever) of vinegar. It also works with lemon juice.
They will also not cross a line made of salt

Mites are a little dangerous depending which and where they come from, specially if they come from doves in the terrace since they can transmit diseases.

1. no more funny mushroom licking, try toads instead
2. If toads making you feel sick then try a cigarette with the funny green stuff inside
3. in case you don't smoke go back to the mushrooms and accept and embrace your new little friends

Agree with Whovian also.
Once used this with success regarding a nest of wasps that were taking residence in my shutter box, quite a while ago. They were very reasonable and left too.

Sat down to have a quick chat with my resident ants..but they didn't listen!!Must be my accent!
Willing to give the walnut leaves ago...where do i get them from?
If not will try the lemon juice....or just get "mini me"to squish them if they come in to watch the tv!!:w00t:
