"Why so much mistery?"

That's what a guy just told me.

Seriously people! Why is it that you don't understand that having a FACE pic on my profile, on messenger, etc, is NOT an OBLIGATION? I have EVERY right to show or NOT to show my face. So do you! So deal with it!

I choose NOT to put my face EVERYWHERE because there's LOTS of idiots out there that are willing 2 use it against me just for kicks! It has happened before and thank god that ONE pic had a HUGE watermark in it, so you couldn't really tell it was me.

WHY the obsession??? That's the FIRST thing guys ask me to show them before even saying anything else! I am NOT "hiding" anything, I just don't feel like having a perfect stranger knowing who I am, plus, last thing I heard, this is NOT a dating site!

He dicho! jijijiji :P

I totally support your decision not to show your face on this site. I’m not at all comfortable with doing it myself. Personally speaking, I seem to invite an unusual amount of attention from people who are not all together stable. For example, last year I had some guy follow me from La Poste to Coop.  I had to leave out a back door just to make sure he didn’t follow me home. The idea that a stranger might think they ‘know’ me because they’ve seen my face on a website is an unfortunate reality I wish to avoid.

My feeling is that any desire to know what another member looks like is purely superficial.  I respect the fact that some members may want to narrow down their social criteria by age, weight, attractiveness, ethnicity, hygiene etc. (any attribute held in a photo) but they should also respect the fact that other members don’t.

So..... Did someone upset you?  However, if you don't want to show your face, there's always the chicken option - but you decide, instead, to put your full name and  a rather sexy photo of a fully made-up woman's eye instead  - hhhhhmmmm can't have it both ways sweetie.........Cool

Carmela here is a tip for you: unfortunately these forum pages are not restricted to glocals members. The search engines index (list) them! Yep, so if you do a failry broad search you might find this post on page one of Google results! So there is less privacy here than you think.

And you have put your email in your profile, reachable from your posts (but only for memebrs). Not advisable. Once it is added to a spam list there is no getting off it ... these lists are sold and resold tens of thousands of times or more.

Anyway, back to this subject, I respect your thoughts about your privacy. I also know many women get a huge amount of dating messages from people they have never met. So it is undrstandable but as Carolyn pointed out, the photo of the 'eye' undoubtedly and I must say naturally, prompts people to enquire.

Have fun anyway ... this is a great site and 99.99% of the people are fabulous, cultured and intersting people. So don't let this picture thing affect you disproportionately.

"you have put your email in your profile, reachable from your posts" I swear I didn't! How do I turn that off??? What do I do?

Why do you think I don't do "Facebook"? It's like the mother load of data sharing/selling/etc! Even if you delete your account there, they keep EVERYTHING you ever gave them! Info, pictures, friends, you name it! Ridiculous, ain't it? The worst part is either people don't care or they just don't realise it... CREEPY!!!

Anyway, thanks for posting Smile

Have a good week-end!

Carmela

Hi guys.

Your email, and other contact details, are NEVER shown on your profile unless you manualy add them under the 'Contact Details' heading on your 'Edit Profile' page.
If you do add your contact details, you can decide if all members see them, or only your friends.

In any case, even if you add your contact details and select that 'All Members' can see them, non members will NOT see your contact details.

Re uploading a profile photo or not - it's 100% up to you.

Thanks

Oded

If that particular guy wants to meet you, he can get his butt off the chair and join in some activities. Thats how you meet people. Expecting to find out every single thing about someone just by chatting is not the way to go

Hi Maria - I think Carmela is annoyed by the enquiries about the 'eye' picture that she had before turning into a chicken Laughing. She assumed that people would understand she doesn't want to be immediately identifiable.

Most guys and girls know the best way to connect with people is to meet others in public events but an 'over eager' minority try to focus on individuals and bypass normal social processes.

@Bizhan: I didnt know about the eye picture. Well logical people will agree with you :)

And about the minority. I find it funny that people expect me to go crazy over them just by some cheezy chat lines. And the funniest thing is that those people dont have any info in their profile even less a picture! Im not complaining. Its an easy way to pass time at nightshifts :P

I like to see people's photos on their profile so if I'm ever having to meet up with any of them for what ever reason, it's nice to have a face to go by so I can recognise them easily, especially if the battery on my phone dies!

Hi DJ - I agree ... it is good to put a face to a name ... when I arrange a Latin dance get together, it is really hard to know who is who without a picture and of course impossible for the participants to find the organiser. But as always a small minority spoil what is a very useful functionality for everyone else.

It is fair to say that most girls accept there will be some unwanted approaches and that happens even if they go to a wine bar or music concert.

Hey Maria!    "pass time"?!

You should get out more and meet real people instead of chatting online!  Laughing

I'm just messin with you. I did notice you said "nightshifts".

Yes, guys who make those approaches are afraid of rejection (most people are which is understandable) so they reveal nothing of themselves ... but they simply don't realise, "you gotta give before you expect to take".

Til we chat again, have an amazing week everyone .. signing off to go meet some fabulous real people in a wonderful Latin place, later today.

Hi Bizhan. Hi Carmela.

I got an impression that this thread is going to direction where only guys are doing something bad. And before I start more in details, it is better to say that I don't like these "over eager" people at all. It really annoys many of my friends too. Even time to time I got really pissed off when I hear some of the stories which are not worth to be written here.

But never the less, we guys need to give some of the blame for other gender as well. We cannot put our head to the bush and say that these guys keeps it going without any responses. I have witnessed by myself one situation which I wasn't expecting after hearing a lot of complaints about glocals "being dating site". It might be I cannot recall her words 100% correctly now half a year later, but the sentences were something like this: "Oh, again some darn *hidden nationality*! Why these keeps bugging me all the time. I'm only looking here for some European hotties." "I have found this way quite many people to date with. Some of them even really nice.". And to clarify, she was just idling online and waiting guys to talk to her.

This time I'm not here provoking rather than just bringing this to public attention and maybe in best case even starting conversation going in new direction. Wink And as a last note, there are quite a lot ladies who start chatting with guys as well only dating in their mind. I can live with it, and hopefully everyone else also because there are so much more here in Glocals...

I think Nir have to change rules and write "Glocals IS a DATING SITE" :-)))) Maybe then we'll have less noise around these discussions...

Seriously, guys, there are 30 thousands members, at least half of them quite young and single, so restrictions will not help to avoid them of writing frivolous messages...

And unfortunately, still there are some unpleasant people. The best way is just to report to admin immeaditely

P.S. Pepso - +100000000

Alex, you know me! I never bring anything up from my personality or my personal life in a sense of experiences ;)

To be straight and honest as I tend to be, I do hide something in the picture. What is hidden behind those shades are my after Glocals spring parties hangover eyes ;D

And Onis, I agree that within this crowd, there are need of coupling for many people... Maybe some other "forum" could be good for the purpose to distinct people willing to do that.

Carmela - my view is that this site was created for people to interact and pictures help. If you are not wiling to share this minimum maybe you should not be on a social site that was created for exactly this purpose?

My advice (I know you didn't ask for it) - don't take yourself too seriously,

Keep smiling,

Catalin

@catalin: I don't think THIS particular website was created with the sole purpose of sharing pictures. Was it? Undecided

If by NOT to posting a picture (which is again, NOT mandatory) on a website (no matter wich) I'm gonna be labeled an "anti-social", so be it! LOL I've been called worse than that ;)

Take Care ;)

Carmela, if you read my post again you will see I said this is a social site (= people talk, meet, and do things together). You profile, including your picture, says "this is me" and if you are not ready to say "this is me" and open to others, what's the point of being in a social network in the first place?!?

I believe it's more than a coincidence that people who have full and updated profiles interact with others, get involved, join activities, post their own, create content and in the end keep this community running. Or maybe you are just here for the taking. After all, it's not mandatory to have a picture, right?!

Concerning the "this is me" part, I am (being myself)! By saying what's on my mind, by sharing with others my point of view, by "talking" (even if it's virtually hehe) to others, I'm being ME Laughing

THIS is ME! Pinky swear! LOL

And now that I think of it, by replying to my post, you are actually allowing me to open up even more, so thanks a bunch! Kiss

lol "mIstery"! what a dumbass!

Carolyn, why didn't you correct me from the beginning? That would have saved me the awful awful e-m-b-a-r-r-a-s-s-m-e-n-t :(

m-Y-s-t-e-r-y! mYstery!

Damn... Guess that's what happens when you decide to "study" English on your own :( I should just stick to my lousy mother tongue lol

Anyway! How does the saying go? "We'll never learn unless we make mistakes?" Or something like that :P

Carmela - don't beat yourself up over the spelling ... sounds like you are very self conscious. Ther is no way of learning a language, even your a own native one, without making mistakes and yes some may seem silly.

You know for many years my secretary used to always correct only the last line of my bussiness letters ... I had a mental block: I always wrote, "looking forward to hereing from you" instead of "hearing" Embarassed .... I can't bear to think of the times she wasn't there to correct it.

Have fun

Seriously - it is pretty hard to meet with somebody face to face if u do not know how his / her face looks like....Sure it also has negative side effects posting a pic, but I think one should be able to lough about it (of course not, if somebody follows you home).

He dicho! jijijiji :P

Carmela C, I guess the origin of the problem is in your status line: well, everyone wants to see the face of a rockstar who happened to be on glocals :)

yeah, thank god it's not pornstar after all...hm...pornstar chicken would ruin your mailbox / messenger big time
