Geneva used to have fixed dates which had to be strictly observed, but there is much more leeway these days.

Here in France, generally the first week of January, but best to look on the internet for individual stores. Huge bargains, come to sunny France and save loads of money! Merry Christmas everyone

Already started! 

Yesterday in Lausanne loads of shops had 30 - 50% discounts.  Seems the Swiss have finally learned how to spell "competitive commerce" and realised that, if they leave it to January, everyone will piss across the border with their Euros!
