Few things for you to consider:

1. On your communications, move the 'friendly people' to point #1, cos I think it's the most important one...

2. During the night itself, ensure the music is not too loud, so people could talk.

3. Have volunteer 'connectors' at the party, that help break the ice between all the new members.

4. Consider making this into a private party for New-Members only, and communicating it. It's a bit scary to come to a party when you're new in town. If you know the party is private and that only other new members will be there, it's a bit less scary...

And now for some less important, but nice-to-have stuff:

Hey Marit,

It can be open to older members, but later. They way we often do it in GVA is that first 1-2 hours are for New Members only, and then we open it up to older members too.

The objective is to make the New Members feel more comfy by ensuring them that they'll have some time inside where everyone else is also a new member.

Hey Marit, the party was always and will be always for both new and old members. The only thing is NMM (which is help once a month) will be a bit different where the FIRST timers will come on early. From 7pm until 9pm it will be just new members and then the veterans will join as well.

BTW, I will need your help next Wednesday at the NMM to welcome the newbies.

If indeed your plan is to allow only new members in the first few hours, I'd say it to the new members when communicating with them.

aaaa... ok just for NMM Wednesday once a month :) Ok, actually yes it makes sense Nir, people are different... But i actually liked, that there were older members too right at the beginning when i came to the first meeting.

Maybe we could have a poll ? Ask members here how they would have liked to have their first meeting with glocals.

Or just try one time this 2 hour NM only(older members join later) and then have a poll after that and ask them (the NM-s) how did they feel about it.

I have been doing the NMM for a while now. The first one was on 30th October 2007. It was a big success since I saw a lot of "new" faces who had signed up ages ago but never came out of their shy shell.

There is always a big turnout!
