we are going to move to Geneva in january of the next year. since we are living in Brazil I have very little idea what winter clothing is necessary in Geneva for a baby of 2 months and a toddler of almost 3 years old. could you, please, give me an advice. is the snowsuit would be too warm for the toddler and for a baby: https://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Snuggly-Bunting-Collegiate-Animal/dp/B018WO1WP2/ref=sr_1_14?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1501265158&sr=1-14&nodeID=7628013011&psd=1&keywords=winter+baby+boy+clothes ?
do you use the thermal underwear?
found this for baby, for example: https://www.amazon.com/BibiCola-clothes-children-clothing-cartoon/dp/B06XDLSDGV/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1501263792&sr=1-3&nodeID=1044510&psd=1&keywords=winter&th=1,
https://www.amazon.com/Winter-California-Hooded-Bunting-Jumpsuit/dp/B01N6Q71SJ/ref=sr_1_28?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1501265262&sr=1-28&nodeID=7628013011&psd=1&keywords=winter%2Bbaby%2Bboy%2Bclothes&th=1&psc=1 , is it too light and needs smth on top?
what about this: https://www.amazon.com/Child-Carters-Girls-Sizes-Months/dp/B01LXF4G1B/ref=sr_1_15?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1501263792&sr=1-15&nodeID=1044510&psd=1&keywords=winter ?
Is it better to use fleece-poliester, woolen clothing or thick cotton is enough?
What kind of shoes do you use?
I would be very grateful if you share your experience, any advice would be helpful! thanks in advance!

If you already have an address to where articles can be sent by post, and if you already have a bank account to pay for small amounts, then look under the following websites :
Leboncoin.fr
Ricardo.ch
Anibis.ch
Petitesannonces.ch
You can register absolutely free with all these domains and then start looking. Good luck.

Dear Sheila, thank you! I'll take a look at these stores. this is very helpful. I don't have an address and account in Switzerland yet, I will see what I can do. My question now is more about arriving from hot Brazil to winter Geneva in January. I am not very sure how much cloths I need to put on my little ones for this first day of arrival. because here we have none of winter cloths and I never used warm cloths for my children to know how warm is too warm or not enough.. I'll try to have an idea from the stores you sent me. Thanks a lot!

Arriving in Geneva in January, you will need a large number of warm, wind-resistant winter clothes for your baby. I would say at least three/four changes even to start with. As clothing is expensive in CH, you could pop over the border and shop during the sales in France which should take place in January - in any case, good luck. Unfortunately we have given all our clothing away, as ours are now 8 and 6. Sorry!

thank you, you helped me a lot! Now I have better idea. I am thinking to get now some cloths for arrival and the first days and then I will order more through internet since we will still need time to settle down, to buy a car etc. I'll use those stores you recommended. For the future I am very curious about sales in France.
is it cold inside the house usually? for home children need to be very warm covered too?
thank you for your mention of the cloths! by age of 6 of my children I am sure I will get rid of their baby cloths too:))

I am going to use lot of thermal underwear and snow suit for the toddler on top, winter sleeping bag for the baby. do you think I need one more level of cloths for them? for example, thermal underwear+pants and light sweater+snowsuit for the toddler or it's too much? for the baby thermal underwear+warm bofysuit+winter wleeping bag?

Hi Anastasiya
One of the largest stores in France [our area] is called Orchestra, with toddler/baby clothes ad infinitum - very wide choice. BTW, the on-line websites recommended are certainly not shops/stores but bidding sites and/or second hand good quality items for sale.
What you have already seems to be good in my opinion - do not overheat the baby. Whilst we live in France, we have the impression that Swiss houses are generally warm and well heated inside, so the children do not need extra layers whilst playing indoors.
If you need more help, do not hesitate to let me know. BTW I am granny to the above!!

HI Anastasyia,
You can also buy a used clothes. Specially the winter ones, babies grow so fast that you don't reuse from one year to the other.

I agree. when mine were small, I got all their stuff from flea markets.
You can also start regularly checking the advertisements in the Classifiedson this site.
There are always offers of good quality goods and you can also place an ad. of your own.
The sales will start right after Christmas and there will be plenty of bargains, even in Geneva.
Also, the major supermarket outlets always have a good selection of stuff for babies and toddlers in both CH and France.
You might also like to check the Moms and Toddlers groups on glocals for more advice and ideas.
All the best, R.

Dear Sheila, thank you!
Grannies have so much experience and common sence :) you helped me a lot with your advices. I already saw Orchestra shop but I guess I'll use it and other sites you recommended as soon as I arrive to Geneva. I see that the most necessary for the first time is just to buy some warm clothes to go out, it will be quite enough for the first few days. do you use any cream for the children to protect the face skin? or it is not necessary?

Personally, I have always used a protective skin cream for my face and hands in winter and I suggest you do the same, especially when a local wind called “la bise” is blowing.
