computer experts, please, some advice

checked my disc permission this evening and find this

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Can someone please explain what is wrong in simple terms?

Would it be necessary to take this in for repair and is it a big problem ( ie also expensive)?

Thank you in advance for your replies

Usually I'd say that these type of mesage could be ignored.. But, it could also be a sign that your hard disk is failing.. But also, since you got this message about a file associated with ARDagent, it *could* be security related.. There have been issues with that in the past.. Is it really old? Are you all up to date with apple updates?

Some info on the ARDagent hole:

If you don't actually use ARDagent / remote desktop you could just remove the whole application or even just that file. It's owned by root i think.

Some more info here, people with exactly the same issue and what they did to fix it:

I should have added ..  It's 99% unlikely you will need to get it repaired .. If it is a sign of failing disk then this type of error will become common, other strange things will happen too, make sure your backup is up to date :)

Worst case i'd say is you need to delete this application and/or files it's complaining about.

John H

Thanks for your reply.

Read your links late last night, afterwards was too tired to reply. as not very computer literate and my head was spinning somewhat...

However my mind is more at rest now and having given me a couple of options, which is very useful.

Thanks again
