du vs Sie

Hello, I was wondering if someone could answer a question I have...

I was reading an easyJet article today in Hochdeutsch, but for a swiss audience. EasyJet used the pronoun du, but written it with a capital D (ie Du).

Would you do this is Schweizerdeutsch? or would you say Sie?

thanks!

Jessica

Usually one uses "Du" for friends, colleagues, and the like whereas the other formaly use is "Sie" e.g. people you dont know, or not your friends. Even superiors whereas today in some jobs they use the "Du" to create an open, easy working climate/condition.

In doubt always use "Sie".

thank you, I was wondering though if in an easyJet magazine it would be ok to use du, and why they wrote it with a capital D!

the good news is that in Schweizerdeutsch ( schwyzerdeutch)  there are no grammar rules! so, write what you want as you want. it is for that reason it is not a written language, but a dialect. oder? Smile

see it as an advertisment strategy ;) they are using "Du" instead of "Sie" do let you feel that they are friends and you can trust them. It is not usual but happens more often compared to some years ago.
