flat in Annemasse

Hello! Does someone know the quarter in Annemasse named "Perrier"? I've found a very cheap flat to buy but many people told me that Perrier is a very "hot" area. I visited it during morning and it didn't seem to me (it's not chic, of course... but is it really dangerous???). Can I have some opinions from glocals community?... Thank you very much for your help!!!

Yes, I heard this... but do you know if it is dangerous? There are different opinions about that...

Thanks Mclaire

Hi Mauro,

I've met quite a few people living in and around Perrier.

From what they tell me, it all depends on the type of person you are.  If you believe that you can handle living in a suburban, low-income neighbourhood and actually blend in; you shouldn't have any problems.

But if you like to flash a BMW or a Rolex, you definitely do not belong there and will be made to understand that - sometimes, in painful ways.

Perrier apartments are the cheapest in the vicinity and there're some great deals out there yet, often charges run high - Check the overall state of the building, eg. doors, interphone, lifts, mailboxes, caves to see if it's a vandalism-prone building.

I also suggest you visit the place again in the evening.

Hope this helps. Bonne chance.

Cheers!

Arun

Totally agree with "Arun K V"

My husband and I arrived to this side of border only 3 nights. Our car got broken into !!  Of course I did not know that it s hot place  as we came from versailles.

In my point of view, It is not a safe place.

cheers

Thanks to Joe, Arun and Kumo for your answers. Of course, I don't walk with BMW, Rolex, diamond bracelet and.. gold teeth! :) I'm just looking for a flat, not too far from Geneva, where I can manage a difficult situation of separation and consequent visits of my son who lives in Geneva. My son is 3-years-old, so the only requisite I pretend is that of a certain safety. Me... I'm an adult, so I can take care of myself! :)

Although I don't live in Annemasse, the quartier "Ambilly" looks safe and nice to me. It's not far from the border neither. And there is a parc too (if I remember correctly) where you could play with your son.

Otherwise you can try to find sth. in St. Julien (directly behind the Perly border, Bus D to Geneva). It's safe - except the area around Intermarché.

Hey,

I am living in Annemasse, but not in Perrier. Anyway on TV in France they are talking about this hot area in Annemasse, it looks are most of the drog dealers there etc. I wouldn't advice you to move there honestly. Try another part of Annemasse for living. Is true in the day is ok, but not to live there. That's why is cheap. I am sure you can find cheap in other parts of Annemasse, Gaillard, Ambily, but think twice  before going there especially if you have a son.

Bye

Thanks to all for your observations and advices. However, I see that there are many different opinions about that... I think I will check again the area during the night... Thanks!

This is my advice Mauro, it depends on the situation of the apartment: if it's on the ground floor I'd forget it but if it's up a few floors and is not facing one of the main roads, go for it. Annemasse is up and coming whereas other towns around the border u can take out your rocking chair or go back and take needle point lessons!
