Dear friends,
As member of the Solar Club I am also working on the project "sun power and water for Kilela Balanda". I would like to ask you to support our project by voting online for it.
Thanks a lot!! Kindly regards,Elisa
The CERN Solar Club is involved in a humanitarian project and participates currently in a competition organized by Conforama to raise funds to implement the project “Sun power and water for Kilela-Balanda”. Kilela-Balanda is a community of 7,000 persons located in South Democratic Republic of Congo.
We are all volunteers and the purpose is to help sustainable development in a direct and concrete way.
At the moment we are planning the installation of a water pumping station, powered by solar energy, for a regional hospital (which supports a health zone of 67,000 people) and two boarding-schools (with 215 children) at Kilela-Balanda. The nearest hospital is in Likasi, 100 Km away. This solar-pumping system would help around 1,000 people to get clean water!
We just need the money to realize our project. And the Conforama’s solidarity competition is a great chance to raising funds. The five most voted projects will become 10’000.-CHF. It is just two clicks away for you … but the impact will be huge in Kilela!! : )
To vote:
1 ) go to the link and vote (you have to copy a code)

2) And more important: after you receive a confirmation e-mail in your inbox, please open it and click on the link to confirm your vote
If you have questions about our project or about the competition of Conforama, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you very much! : )
Please note: This competition runs just until Monday 22 October and it is a great opportunity for us to realize our project. Every vote count!! Probably Conforama will send you a Newsletter, but corresponding to the competition rules you can unsubscribe it if you are not interested.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The CERN Solar Club is engaged in the promotion of the use of the Sun's power as a source of inexhaustible energy for public interest projects as well as in the field of transport respectful of the environment.
At the moment we are planning the installation of a water pumping station, powered by solar energy, for a regional hospital and two boarding schools at Kilela-Balanda (DR of Congo). Currently there is neither running water nor electricity at Kilela-Balanda.
In November 2011, the natural water well serving the hospital was channeled to a protected water pool for the provision of clean water to the hospital and two schools.
Today, the water must be carried with difficulty, on a long slope, in 20 liter containers. As the men are out working in the fields, it is the women and children who do this task. We believe that the development of these women and the education of these children would be better in the workshops (where they learn sewing and hygiene) and the schools instead of carrying heavy water containers.
Currently we are working on the planning and dimensioning of the water pump, its solar electrical supply and the network of water distribution.
Our aim is to carry out this project in April 2013. One of our club members is willing to make the journey to Kilela-Balanda to supervise the installation.
Specifically, the following items are needed:
1 x water pump
4 x photovoltaic solar panels
1 x water tank
Water pipes, electrical cables
Travel expenses for one person
Our project promotes education and health, and contributes to the sustainable development of this community. To carry through this project we need YOUR support.
From the CERN Solar Club team and all the people of Kilela Balanda... many thanks for your vote ! :-)
