Hi,
I have an employment contract with a company in Geneva that runs until the end of May. I want to quit and leave now though. I looked at the fine print on the contract and it said that the contract could be terminated immediately with the consent of both parties following the conditions set in some law from the 1940's. I have no idea what law this is or what it says. Does anyone know if there is any standard time frame for how much notice one is supposed to give when quitting? Ideally, I would just end the contract immediately, but if they don't agree to that, I would like to know how much notice I am required to give them...
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg!
I will try to answer your question :-) It first depends if you are still in the trial period (usually first 6 months). In this case it's easyer to quit a job and you normally have a 1 or 2 months notice to give. But if you have been working for them for a longer time, the standard time frame in Switzerland is -as far as I know- 3 months. But this applies for unlimited work contracts; yours is limited in time and so I dont know if it works the same way then...could you please tell me which law of the 40's it is? It should be written at the fine print. I am French and so I could easily have a look at the law and the articles and tell you what's written in it about the conditions to terminate the contract immediately! :-)
Regards

Exactly! For instance where I work, if I tell them on September 5th I want to end the contract, the notice will run from October 1st on and so the contract ends at the end of December...
Hope this helps you a lil bit!
